New unisaw, Miwaukee Slider and Jet Drum Sander, technology rocks!

Milwaukee slider on sale in Knoxville TN HD for $499.  I have the non-slider version and the dust collection is amazing.  Even with MDF almost no dust escapes.  I squeezed a 4" flex duct and filled the gaps w/some weather stripping on the rectangular adapter to connect it to my DC.  Mine shipped fromt he factory spot on (w/in 0.005 on the five cut test).  I am looking for a new blade for it though.

Wait a minute if that is the new version 6955-20, 12" slider, buy it now at 499.00. I can not find it for less than 679.00 out the door including tax and shipping on the net.  The saw has been judged as good or even better than the Kapex by a bunch of folks and that is near 1/3 the price!

I guess HD just has a ton of purchasing power with the quantity they can afford. I'll be going over to mine today to take a look.

Regarding the cabinet saw, I don't have the Delta but have one of the last INCA models and bought it for many of the features now being required by OSHA and other bodies.  It looks like SawStop, which pioneered some of these features on cabinet saws in the U.S. has been an influence.  I moved to a cabinet saw from a Shopsmith in 2000, albeit a big move, and realized I was probably going to only own one cabinet saw and went for the one I wanted.

The big safety change now a requirement on all new saws is the riving knife which raises, lowers and tilts with the blade, is never in the way and virtually eliminates kickback.  For those of you contractor types who buy a saw and throw the guard away, the riving knife can be a life saver. 

Like the INCA, the Delta has an increased table area in front of the fully-raised blade which makes cutting panels, wide boards and using crosscut tables a breeze.  The arbor lock is also something Delta has adopted

The INCA has cowling around the blade and it appears the Delta does too.  This enables real dust collection from a rear port instead of turning the base of the saw into a sawdust collector.

All power tools seem to be improving although on different schedules.  Festool has upgraded or reinvented many of the hand tools we use.  It is about time Delta reinvented the Unisaw, which I believe dates from the 1930s.

Yes all the features you mention I love. The table saw I have will be a tool I will find had to replace because my wife purchased as a gift for me. She actually went to the store had it loaded in the van and somehow found a way to get it out of the van and set it up and put a bow on it.

It was my first big saw after my DeWalt hybrid literally melted in a house fire. I do think the new Delta will be a saw I really take a hard look at when I find room for a second table saw or just outgrow the saw I have.

That riving knife probably would have saved the finger tip I lost.

can someone look at their new milwaukee slider and tell me where it is made?  they no longer state on their website.
 
I've seen the oscillating drum sander at my local Woodcraft.  I really wish I had bought it instead of the used, Grizzly 24" dual drum sander I bought recently.  granted, I payed less than a third of the price of the Jet, but now that I have used the Grizzly, I'm not real impressed with it.  It has horrid adjustablility, its not open ended (so 23 1/2" wide is as much as I get out of it), and the bed is sagging over a 1/16th of an inch, so I have to replace that, which will not at all be fun.

I am really intrigued by that Milwaukee SCMS!  With all the problems with the Kapex that I read on here, its made me a little timid about it.  I'm not really ready to buy a new one yet, but if the Milwaukee is really that good, it may be sooner rather than later.
Nickao, have you picked one up yet?  Also, is it the new one that is on sale at HD?
 
The Milwaukee slider is made in Taiwan, and it is the one for sale at HD.  I am a little irritated, because I paid $629 several weeks ago for mine.

Our HD doesn't have this on sale, they're selling it for $629.
 
i have owned both the kapex and the milwaukee. kept the milwaukee, its the best scms i have ever used. the only advantage the kapex has is it weighs less.
 
That is only an advantage if you work on site. Being in the shop I wanted the heaviest tool possible. There is something positive about a great mass when working with tools that do not have to move.

I know that is not what the festools are for, I am just saying heavy is not bad or a disadvantage for everyone.
 
After getting all hot about that 499 price on the Milwaukee SCMS, I ran over to my local HD and guess what - it is $699 there! :'( :'( :'(  Either the $499 price was a goof at some store(S) or HD has VERY wide local pricing variations and specials!
 
Yea I just ran to HD and found the price to be shown as 629 through 10/26 and they said it was actually 699 now. Whoever got it for 499 got a fantastic deal!

I wonder if that's the price of the miter saw and they just had the SCMS mis-marked.  Just my luck, my HD would have to be on the ball.  ::)

No,the price is for the slider version(they don't have the non-sliding model)  It has a sticker price(regular $699.99) and then a yellow sticker with a big  $499.99 on it!
 
As someone who paid $629 for mine (ugh), I can confirm that it was not an error.  I have two HDs within a few miles and it was on sale last week for $499.
 
There are two sliders. One is the 6955,one is the 6950. The 6955 has the digital reading, the 6950 does not have it.

Is the one for 499 for the digital version? I was told from home depot the digital version was not 499.99, but the  slider without the digital was 499.99.

Maybe some stores are substituting for the digital version or maybe they are not aware of the difference.

nick,i don't think it's right.
The 6955 is a SMCS the 6950 is the non slidding version.
I don't think Milwaukee has a model without the digital.
 
Yes you are right.

I know I saw that slider without a digital readout somewhere. I must be losing it,.
 
I was told by am employee on black Friday the Milwaukee slider will be 499.98 at home Depot.

Whether true or not I am not sure, but take a peek the day after thanksgiving, it's worth checking out.
