New Warning ribbon under first post

Greg,

This warning has always been a part of our forum member guidelines and a part of our agreement when members sign up for a new account on the forum.

While I make every effort to ensure that the information contained on the forum does not show improper use of tools or unsafe techniques, I certainly can't monitor every thread and every post.  In lieu of being able to do that, this serves as a reminder to members that posts should not display unsafe practices.  Our members personal safety is important to us and we want to advocate safe operation of power tools here on the forum.

I would like to thank forum members for respecting this request.

Shane

Hrrm... reading that, it related to posting weird usages of tools.

This disclaimer makes it clear that "you should not attempt this at home" unless you know what heck you're doing.
And I guess don't post it if it's not proper usage.

Edit:  A much more effective "warning"-- table saw accidents:
http://www.doctormahoney.com/photo_gallery/gallery/table_saw.htm
NOTE link has some bloody pics.

Ohhh, someone on here or WN posted a router injury within the last year, which chewed a huge hole on the pad between thumb and index finger.  That scared me safer than I've ever been.

I too find it to be a bit OTT. I don't like it under the first post. It makes it appear as if it is directly connected with the poster. I think it would be less distracting, but just as effective, if it were at the bottom of every page.

Having said that I don't really think it is necessary at all, but that's just my opinion & I don't expect Festool USA will pay any attention to it whatsoever.....

Count me in!  I think it should be at the very bottom.  Its annoying under the first post!

You guys are from across the pond, where life is a bit more normal. Over here in the states people SUE for anything and win. We lost a law suit for over a million over one word ALL. So it is relay nuts here for the United States judicial system.

I don't like it either.  But i don't think it matters where it goes, every one will ignore it anyway & just go past it.  I'm doing it already.

Agreed, most sites have it at the bottom of the page in the footer.

Yep, just scroll past it. And if you use the "New" button you will see a lot less of the warning, when it is at the top.

Any way England is becoming like USA

Why can't the warning ribbon just be posted on the homepage rather than in every thread? Seems like overkill to me.

Because not all visitors to the forum come through the home page.  Look guys, this is just a reality of our society.  I tried to make it as unobtrusive as possible.  I beg you to please be understanding of the change even though you may not be in favor of it.

Greg, no worries.  I figured there would be questions and actually planned to post an announcement but didn't get to it before you posted because of interruptions.

Do what you gotta do.  I think everyone here has read it but i don't think anyone will read it again.  Its just gonna get glossed over by everyone.  If it keeps everything sweet with the suits then so be it.  As they say, cant please everyone all of the time.

Have to admit, when I first saw it, I remembered a great ad for Australia I saw years ago on australia.com... at the end of the video, the guys says "so come to Australia, where we haven't lawyered (sic) the fun out of life!".  Amen.
