New Workshop - Ideas Needed

Now a fan is a "fan"tastic idea, especially in this area. It gets hot and humid like nobody's business.

I'd suggest the following:

- florescent lights even with cords that plug into the existing ceramic bases - or you may have covered with your LED's
- definitely paint - you'll find you feel better with a cleaner space and elimination of that dirty peach wall.  Plus light makes a huge difference in your work accuracy and overall demeanor!
- A bench of some kind - could be just legs or a higher saw-horse setup for your tops to make them a more comfortable and usable level with better stability.  Or an MFT or derivative.
- Think about wire shelves like those made by Metro or knockoffs.  Would give you a way to get some storage  for tools, supplies, etc up off the floor but in a format that would be easily moved at a later date.
- Maybe a sysport build or two to help with the Festool organization
- You could do a wall tool cabinet that attaches to cleats screwed into the studs.  That would let you easily move them if you decide to move with not much.  And a great compliment to a bench for keeping tools close at hand. Lots of examples on the internet for ideas.  Wordsmith, Wood Magazine, Fine Woodworking.

I think you said you ended up in Ft. Smith.  Are there any Festool dealers close by?  And did you move with Home Depot in a new role / location?

Good luck!

Somehow I never thought about shelves. I was thinking I'd just out everything in a diy workbench but shelves would allow me to simplify my work tops/future work bench.

I'm pretty set on painting now, thanks guys. It's not like it'll take very long anyways.

Sysport is definitely on my mind. I'm trying to make something out of an extra lid I have since I ordered an attic lid from Tom in Austin, TX.

And yes, I'm in Ft. Smith and still with Home Depot.

The closest Festool dealer (s) are in Tulsa, OK which is about 2 1/2 hours from me. What a drag, but I do have a set schedule with weekends off now so I could always take a day trip.

Here's the Metro wire shelving line - Likely Home Depot might carry something similar.  I bought a unit at The Container Store.  Amazon also stocks it.
https://metro-wire.com/

The shelves hold a ton.  Locking wheel options.  Woodcraft sells a maple top that is 2' x 5' (on sale now, BTW for 25% off) that would let you put a bench top on a shorter version of the shelves and make a full mobile bench top with shelves underneath as an option if you wanted more bench space for grinders, drill press, etc.  And you can cut 1/4 masonite to line the shelves when you want something that doesn't let parts fall through.

Good luck with the new space!

Notice this Paulk workbench stored on lower left. Light is a utilitech led from Lowes.

For. Small shops , Festool is your friend. I'd start by building a Guido wall to store the systainers and get some sortainers/ racktainers.  Plus the Guido wall has cabinet space for storage as well.

A couple of MFTs and a CMS, that you can fold up and use as needed.

Spur shelving can be your friend also.

Also utilise the ceiling for storage as well.

For power, if you able to, run a sub panel out to your garage / shop then run a couple of circuits, one for lighting, one for tools, and a couple of strategically placed outlets.
