Nice wooden mallets

Agreed - Dave Jeske from Blue Spruce makes absolutely top notch tools. His mallets are incredible.

Sending them back across the pond no option. I dont even own a high quality set of chisels yet nor am I very skilled at using chisels... so they will do nicely for a while....

Slartibartfass - Those are some nice looking mallets.

Are you going to do some carving? Dovetailing?

Never had wooden mallets and once in a while i use a chisel and hitting that with a hammer just does not work well and creates unnecessary pain in my fingers that get in the way.... [smile]

I had not heard of either the Pinie or the Blue Spruce but they both look good--I'll have to add them to my list next time I'm in the market.  I've tried a lot of mallets over the years for carving, fitting, soft metalwork, all kinds of stuff.  Two of my favorite are these:  The E C Emmerich 140 mm.  It gets a lot of use and it fits my hand really well and has good balance for extended sessions.  I use all the faces and also choke up on it for lighter taps.  I got it from Adria years ago but I don't think they distribute them anymore.  The other one I like is the 20 oz. from the Wood is Good Co.--another very comfortable handle for me and pretty much indestructible on the business end.  I've gotten rid of more expensive mallets like the db2 brass one from bctw.  Very pretty but it literally pained me to use it:  the handle was way too short for my hand with a sharp detail near the end that dug into your finger--very uncomfortable.  I'm looking at one from Lee Valley to replace it.
