Did I miss all the excitement about the Made in North America saw rails? I saw the announcement on Festool Facebook over an hour ago. Of course, I have all the rails I need, but I might go with a long holey rail just to support NA manufacture.

Also, did I miss all the discussions about the new Woodpecker OTT? Usually there are multiple posts within the first hour.

Any ideas on what tools may be coming to NA in the fall?

Wow, I totally missed that. While I think that is great, I wonder if it will result in the guide rails being more expensive. I have been kicking around buying the 110" rail, might just hold off and pick up one of these US made ones.

And regarding the latest OTT, well Ill just say itll be another Ill pass on. But at least it doesnt seem too crazily overpriced.

I looked at it, but I'm not sure it would do anything for me that I can't do already with other layout instruments.  In general, though, I'm suspicious of these types of swiss army knife tools.

Given that I already have the tools that it is supposed to replace, I agree.  It doesn't do anything that I can't already do well.  I will give it credit for an innovative detent design.

I must be missing something....

I saw the news about NA Festool going to imperial units but nothing else.

Tell!

This is usually the last place Festool "announces" anything.

Shane at ToolNut is pretty good at telling us what's new.  And there are members that are pretty on top of announcements from other sources.

I have not seen a rail announcement anywhere.

Google Festool Facebbok. Go to site. Scroll down to see announcement on rails.  Lots of comments and questions.  I am using my phone and lack skills to paste link.

I learned of the announcement about the manufacture of rails in the U.S. just like you guys, on the FUSA Facebook page. I don't have anything to share outside of what was already said there, but Tyler (presumably) posted that more details would be coming soon. Sorry I don't have more to share but I'm sure we'll get the details soon.

Wondering what we should read into the announcement coming on Facebook first ?

Even before big time dealers even get a sniff ? [blink]

Why the excitement? What difference does it make?

Possibly for the long rails a lower price? Shipping from Europe has got to be expensive for such a long package.

We'll release additional details on Monday. The short version is that we are launching our first US production line in Lebanon, IN. We will begin manufacturing the FS Guide Rails here. Over time, we'll add more production lines, but we're taking one step at a time.

Teasing the first "Made in the USA" products made sense on US Independence Day. This will have no effect on dealers. The quality, pricing, etc. should remain the same.

I was referring to the announcement being on FB before the dealers even knew about it.

But, I suppose it'd have been hard to keep the cat in the bag if the dealers knew before your broadcast on FB.  Some of them have really big mouths.  [big grin] [big grin] [big grin]

Congrats on the new production line.  I'm sure the locals are happy as well as the accountants.

Congrats Festool on not getting guide rails from overseas.

[member=57769]TylerC[/member] , Are the rails actually being manufactured (extruded) in your facilities or are you shipping in extrusions from a supplier in the USA and then cutting to size and then applying the decals and plastic parts?

Peter

[member=1674]Peter Halle[/member]: I'm pretty sure that I know the answer to this one, but I'm double checking w/ our production team before I potentially put my foot in my mouth.

We have a video about the new production line that I'll share on the FOG next week. It's a little more for internal use, but you all may find it interesting.

[member=57769]TylerC[/member],  I have been to Festool Lebanon on more than one occasion.  You work there virtually everyday.  An extrusion line would be a major integration into the space and then there would be all the safety precautions.  Everyone in the facilities should know about it.

Thank you for answering my question.

Peter

[member=1674]Peter Halle[/member]: Ha! Yeah, that's why I'm fairly sure that my presumed answer the correct one. Still, I'll get more detail. I want to confirm not just whether the extrusion is happening in Lebanon but (if not) where it is happening.

Shipping containers come 40 foot long.
If it fits it ships! :)
