OF 1400 guide rail stop vs. edge guide

John,

Instructions have always been an issue to users here in the US.  I assure you that Festool USA is aware of this.  My take is that the need for instructions is a cultural thing.  It is a European based company, and in Europe the tools are used extensively by professionals who go thru a training program that takes years and exposes them to the tools and the techniques, thus instructions are not that important.

In North America, I suspect the majority haven't had the same exposure to the tools and their features...  The instructions are more needed here.  That is why there are supplemental manuals done here in the US for many tools.

Steve, Thanks for the link to the manual. Much better then the manual that comes with the OF 1400. It is a big help to a first timer Festool owner.

Thanks

Here's a link to his homepage where you can find his other manuals, all very helpful.  The Festool USA site has links to his and other reviews, under products select the specific tool and then links will be shown.

Okay, so it looks like it is supposed to come with the outrigger foot.  I think they included all the parts.  For some odd reason there was an extra metric screw in the box.  Oh well.

Pretty sure there are no rods in the case, but then again I might have missed them. I will check again when I get home to night. So if they are missing I will take it up with Rockler. Thanks  Shane.

Found the rods. they were in the bottom of the systainer. When looking at the location of the rods it looked like they were two molded groves at the bottom of the case.  The rods are the same color as the plastic bottom so it look liked the groves were empty.

Took the OF1400 for a ride for the first time today. Had to route some grooves and rabbets for a cabinet. Pretty simple stuff but still important to do it well. Used the edge guide with the guide stop for stability. OMG this tool when combined with the accessories is amazing. Honestly, you have to use them just once to see how it completely transforms using a router. I have a Porter Cable router as well which will now remain permanently fixed in the router table. I started marking out the panels and cutting them at 3.30pm with the TS55. By 5pm they were in the clamps ready for glue-up. This may not seem all that impressive to the pros out there but I had never used the OF1400 before, and without it (and the TS55) I estimate it would have taken me double or triple the time.

Richard.
