I had to trim some edges, and usually i do this on the router table but this time there were curved parts.
So i came up with this jig, it's a simple piece of 5mm trespa that covers half the base and extends outwards for additional control.
I simply used the baseplate as a template for the holes, to attach it you simply unscrew the baseplate and screw this one in place.

I put a 45 degree chamfer bit with bearing on the router.
the "missing" part of the base allows the sticking out edge of the trim to pass under the base and be trimmed. This allow to work with the router standing up and you can also handle curved parts

Here you see the result, it works extremely well with a much better finish than i had by using the router table.
It is pretty much fool proof, i did somewhere around 60m of trimming, and made no mistakes or chips. I even trimmed the short edges with it.
Because it is trimmed at 45 degrees the edges feel smooth and only require a light pass with sandpaper to get rid of the glue here and there.

Thats a great little addition. Ive been using a base like that for years to trim up solid wood edging.

But, if you ever needed an excuse to buy the MKF700. this is it. the base is designed specifically for this process and Festool offer a 45 degree cutter too :)

nice 45 deg bit .. where did you buy it?
It's from CMT, i like it because it has a large bearing, that way only the exterior of the cutter can touch the wood. And the exterior spins the fastest so you get a smooth fast cut and no burn.

Thanks for this post, it  got me to knock up a base for my OF1400 to trim some door edging working from the top of the door out of a piece of trespa and took a knob off my old Hitachi saw worked great no split edging on 4 doors edged all around [big grin] I'll try and post a photo next week [big grin]
