Well just imagine that you have a cutter that you use a lot and every time you take it out of the drawer it behaves like new. Do you need 3 guesses which cutter I mean? Festool of course !

The causal mechanism is that they are better because the green box people put the zobo gear into them.
It is only correlated the they are in the green and blue box.

Yes, easy. The next time I make one for a commission I will use the OF1010 now that you mention it. The key is the ability to do trammel work and that just needs a copying ring - I always use a 30 mm one.

PM me your email address if you need the very simple drawing.

I've got both the OF1010 and the OF1400.  I always pick the lightest tool that will do the job, so I frequently use the 1010; always on the LR32 system.  Unfortunately, FestoolUSA stopped offering the vast majority of their 8mm bits in North America several years ago.  I can say from experience, the 8mm bits I have used cut just as smoothly as the 1/2" bits.  The slightly larger than 1/4" shaft also insures less chance of bit failure.

I think they were NUTS to take 8mm bits off the market here!  They should be re-introduced with a bit set or two available to offer a discount.  That would also make the OF1010 much more attractive.

After seeing the individual prices for Zobo branded gear I think that FT combo set makes a lot of sense.

The 1010 is a great choice of router. If you need something more powerful you can always add a 1400 or my favorite, 2200, later. In terms of other accessories, an edge guide is a must and I like the edging accessories that help convert the 1010 to something like the MFK 700, although not as elegant. I also like the LR32.

If you can still get one (it was discontinued here) there is a larger base you can buy for edge work - adds stability to to the machine and it is great for profiling edges. It is called a table widener and the part number was 493 139.There is also a similar base called an extension table that has guide rods and is part number 488 756.

In terms of bits, you cannot go wrong with Festool bits. I bought many profiles right when they were being discontinued in North America, but these are some of the best bits I have used. Very high quality. I wish Festool would bring them back to North America as I did not get 100% of the profiles I use. But, happy to have what I was able to secure.

I have found that the 90 degree base adapter is a big help with edge work like banding and mortise work with the 1010.
