OF1010 Question

I am thinking about getting the OF1010 mainly for using slot cutters.  For those that own a 1010 will the chip catcher accommodate a regular two or three wing slot cutter?  Thanks

The maximum cutter diameter is 50mm:https://www.festool.co.uk/Products/...d=574334&name=Router-OF-1010-EBQ-Plus-GB-240V

I think you'll find most cutters are less than that, for instance:http://www.ffx.co.uk/tools/product/Trend C144X1 4Tc 5027654021996 Slotting 4.7Mm Cut

Having said that, I think you'd be unwise to try a slot cutter in a handheld router; if you tip it at all you run the risk of it flying out of your hands!

Not sure why you think that?  The slot cutters are the same as the ones for biscuit slots. Which are often used in hand held routers to cut the biscuit slots. As long as it is held firm, there should be no issue. :)

I do a lot of doors, hardware and weatherstrip retrofits.  The OF1010 is one of my top three go to routers.

Funny that is exactly what i would use the 1010 for.

I think that says it all.  I'm a hobbyist, so have lots of time, and a router table.  I wouldn't generally have a problem handholding with a large cutter, but a slot cutter could easily catch.

OK, call me a wimp.

Check out the Porter Cable 450 or the DeWalt 611 in plunge bases for hardware.  The turret stop doesn't have spring to it making it easier to set the depth first time.  I honestly don't even do a test cut anymore.  DC is good on a template and they are comfortable to use.  I have a couple set up for hardware and made a sled similar to the Festool or the Norfield Stilizer for a couple different weather strip cuts.  Their plunge bases have a couple threaded holes in them already similar to the Festool routers and it just screws right on.

I've used a 4 mm slotter for biscuits with mine a lot. Not sure of the diameter but you can't use the swivel catcher you have to use the fence with the clear catcher.

I also like the 1010 for slot cutting work,  doors,  flooring and cabinet work.  But I also remove the plastic dust shroud pieces.

Also use the DeWalt 611 and can definitely recommend them.  On my Festool OF routers I have extra chip catcher cups from EKAT parts and just modify (cut) as needed.  The parts are actually cheap for what they are.

I need to get that fence.  [smile]  It's been on my list forever.
