I've just bought the Of1400, already have the 1010 and love it! Mainly using it for LR32.  My question, I have some bookcase strips to rout into some 18mm birchply, 600 x 1900mm I have a brand new stepped cutter and will be using the flat strips from Hafele. Initially I was going to use the fence, but since seeing a few videos about the guide rail 492601 would I be better off using this with 2700 rail and clamping the rail? I don't own the guide rail adapter yet...

Cheers

Will the bit you are using not fit in the 1010? If so you already have the guide rail adaptor for that.

If you need to borrow an adaptor for the 1400 pop down and grab it.

Thanks Dan. That's great.

Can't remember what shank the cutter is... Basically boils down to new toy, and I wanna use it!!! Lol

Natch.

I clamp the rail when using a router.  i'm not sure it's absolutely necessary, but an ounce of prevention and all..the only other time i clamp the rail is if I'm cutting up PVC sheets.  That stuff is sooo slick.  When clamping a guide rail, just snug it and don't overtighten because it will make the middle of the rail rise and poor results will follow.  Trust me, it's experience and not the good kind... [wink]

And do not forget to tighten the rail adapter rod thumb screws.

The guide rail adapter would be perfect for this use.

It's also great for mid-board dados and when combined with rail stops, it works well to produce accurate stopped dados too. Definitely something I'd add to your kit if you have the OF 1400 and various rails.

I've been so very close to doing that, thanks for the visual reminder.

I used my 1400 for routing the slots for bookcase strips in 17 tall bookcases for a church library.  I used the edge guide instead of the track.

I screwed on an 18" hardwood runner to extend the fence length.  A continuous runner works in this application and gives you better feeling of stability.

I think it would have been more fun to use my long guide and the guide stop.  I was facing a deadline.

I agree that the less complicated it needs to be the better.  if simple fits the bill...don't waste time on a bunch of superfluous gadgetry.  it's easier to repeat if it's easy to put back together! [wink]

You should try out using the guide rail, I did this exact thing for the first time recently and was very pleased with it. You can't get it wrong, as you can can with the edge guide.

Used the of1010 in the end as like you said using the rail is just great! The extra power would have been nice, but it coped. 1400 next job is dovetails with the leigh super jig.

Mft came in so handy for repeatable trenches and was so quick! These are for the top boxes of a wardrobe project. Tall ones had to be measured and done on the bench with the 2700 rail. Either way I've bought into the system and loving it.
This has speeded things up a lot too.
Transformer in the distance with the uk to us lead, works treat just need a dedicated bench for it.

Have a great weekend folks.
