OF1400 in non CMS table.

Does anyone in the UK have any idea about fitting a OF1400 into a third party router table? I'm looking at a second router to join my OF1010 for beefier jobs and after a previous thread asking about the 1400 compared to trend / dewalt / Makita alternatives and it's the 1400 I would ideally like but I don't want the cost of the CMS and router insert

I think Festool make the best handheld routers, but I don't think I'd consider one for a router table unless it was a CMS.

I favour Triton.  As standard the have through-the-table height adjust, and the spindle locks when you raise the collet fully, so you only need one spanner.  And they're half the price of an OF1400.

Incidentally I do have a Festool 1010, a Festool 1400, a Triton 1400W as well as a couple of others.  The Triton lives in the mostly home-made table with an Axminster aluminium router plate.  On my table I have a couple of drawer runners under the top that keep the fence parallel with the mitre slot; works well.

Go to utube, Guido Henn makes a router table and uses a festools router.

He basically uses the rods for the edge guide to hold the router to the table.

As people have said, there are no companies that offer a plate pre-drilled for the OF1400 or a lift that accommodates the odd size of this router, so you would have to drill the plate yourself and sacrifice above the table adjustment/bit changing -- which is why, as [member=6802]Roseland[/member] said, the Triton is a great way to go if you are looking for table routing.

Or you could make your own table for the 1400 -- the Guido Henn video shows him fitting the router into an Incra plate, though I'm not sure whether he also has above the table adjustment for the router.

There are a lot of good deals for router tables, including the lift mechanism and fence, that only need the Porter Cable router motor.

I bought my combo, including the motor, at Woodcraft for well less than the price of the 1400. I have the 1400 for free hand work (for which it excels). I just hated the idea of "trapping" the 1400 under a router table. It's like using a thoroughbred to pull a plow.

I did have to improvise for the dust collection.

I would agree that the OF1400 is a great router but I don't think I'd get it to use mounted in a table when there are a variety of other routers on the market that work well in a table. The Porter Cable 7518 is powerful sold just as a motor for mounting in a lift, but a little pricey. I think Dewalt sells some of theirs as just motors and they also would mount in the lift Incra sells as well as others I believe.  For me, after years of using an old Makita plunge router mounted upside down in a Rockler table, I am glad I finally upgrade and bought a lift/table/router motor combo from Incra. It's just more accurate, plus with the Incra positioner, the whole thing can't be beat for accuracy for all table routing techniques. Sometimes you just wish you had made the bigger investment earlier and changed the way you did things long ago. It's like the Domino - Having one means you would never want to be without one ever again.

I have the OF1400 and had no luck finding a compatible router table. I really didn't fancy drilling the baseplate. I ended up buying a Trend T11 and router table. Still love the OF1400.
