Have a project to make 24 window sashes coming up. So I'm planning to get a new router to do the mortise and tenons and was wondering if the OF1400 is powerful enough or do I need to step up to the OF2200. I will be using 8/4 Sapele as the rail and stile material.

The OF1400 is a very powerful machine and easily capable of doing raised panel work in oak. So, your mortices should work well.

I now keep my OF1400 in my CMS-OF (router table) where is copes with everything that I throw at it.

Peter,  what would you say is the cut off when you need to go to a 2200?  I have figured in time I will get a 2200 which will mainly live in a CMS unless I need it's services elsewhere and then have a 1400 for everything else.

I had my OF2200 in my CMS-OF for years and used the OF1400 as my hand-held large router. About a year or so ago I was chatting to a professional woodworking friend of mine who had the two routers the other way around. After that I thought that I would try swapping them around.

I now have the OF1400 in the CMS-OF where I think it is perfect for me. The grip, dust collection and soft start of the OF2200 are so good that I kick myself for not making the switch ages ago. The dust hose coming straight up from the OF2200 is so much better than the side entry of the OF1400 especially when working on a long piece of wood.

So, my hand held routing is done with either the OF1010 or OF2200. I must say that I use the OF1010 more than the OF2200 but that is because I do a lot of smaller work.

Do the positives of the OF2200 make it better in a CMS than a OF1400, IE the dust collection aspects.

The OF2200 is slightly better dust wise in the CMS-OF, probably due to the better design of the dust path from the router. But that is not enough to affect my decision about which one will live in the CMS-OF.

If the actual decision is based on buying either the OF1400 and OF2200 and not both then the OF2200 wins by far as it is the most brilliant hand held router. I have said many times that the OF2200 is one of the 3 most innovative tools that Festool have ever produced (the others, for me, have always been the Domino DF700 and the Conturo). In the last year or so I think that I should increase this list to include my Kapex 120, TS55 and CTL26 only because I use them so much and could no longer manage without them.
