Festool and Friends:

I have an OF2200 that has only been used twice. It is sparking inside the top motor cover. I can see the sparks through the ventilation ports.

Is this normal?

Photo (since video is not allowed) is attached.

Thanks,

Matthew

From forum searches, it appears this may be normal for brushed motors....

That said, I would like an official OK from Festool.

Thanks again.

Mine sparked when new too - it has worked flawlessly and it seems to settle down a little. I would not worry too much about it.

When the tool is new and you are looking inside of the opening, you might be able to see a small amount of sparking. This is pretty normal. If the sparking is large enough that is something that seems dangerous to the tool, please contact the service department directly for further assistance.

Thank you everyone for your input. I think things are normal (light sparks) for now. I will keep an eye on it and call support if it gets worse.

On the other hand, if the bit hits a knot or something in the wood and causes a spark...is there any chance (or a chance worth worrying about) that the spark will travel into the dust collector and cause an explosion?

Just covering all the bases.

Thanks again everyone!
