As for as I know this is the first picture of the Workcenter in the wild (at least I couldn't find any).

Brice, they have been around for so long over here in the UK and are now so common that they are considering a cull!!! [tongue] [tongue]

is it easy to fit and remove.

As easy as latching a systainer to the top of your CT.

Oh, butt out Shane he wasn't talking to you. [tongue]  No, I'm joking, you've very helpful with getting us info on the new tools and I really appreciate it (even though I never got my RO90 edge guard video like you promised).  So a big thumbs up to Festool and the dealers that I'm sure have been very busy! [thumbs up]

And Alan, I plan on doing a review of the Workcenter.  And luckily for you my workday tomorrow got canceled, so I'll be able to start right away.  With any luck I'll some to post soon (although my camera isn't happy, every picture is grainy [mad])

Guy, that's true but no one ever bothered to take a picture of the thing, apparently I'm the first one....ever.

Bah! As I was sitting around here idly by the company pool slurping down a few cold ones, I pondered to myself... "Self, what was that I was supposed to do?". Ah, yes. A video for my buddy, Brice. [big grin]

Festool RO 90 Protector Set - 497 936

Edit: I hope you take my comment in jest. It's been a crazy few weeks lately. Sorry for the delay on the video.

The wild? Looks to me like that's still the Festool warehouse.

Good one Alex. [thumbs up]  The only way to tell it's not the Festool warehouse it that all the Systainers are the classics, give me a few months and you won't be able to tell the difference. [tongue]

I got mine at Rockler at 9 am.   [eek]

Got to the job and had some thresholds to refinish and stain as well as a section of flooring in the doorway to sand down to the raw wood and coat.

impression is GOOOOOD!

I thought vibration might be an issue in rotex mode but nope.

Thing ripped through finish(gummed up the 40 granat though) The finish must have been at least 40 yrs old!

Impressed with the power of rotex and the surprised by how soft it treated the wood in ROS mode. I even ripped the corners down with the delta pad.

Initial thoughts of the delta compared to the dx93.

Seemed about the same. I didnt use it that much today but it definately worked as well as the dx93.

I have some steps and kicks to tear down in the next couple of days. Then it will have a proper test.

yes i would recommend this tool to a friend   [smile]

I'm curious about one hand operation in ROS mode.  Is that doable?

Too bad they are on BACKORDER!

Picked one up today, what an awesome tool!  It makes quick work of Kreg Plugs on the inside of a cabinet, in those hard to reach areas!!!

One hand is doable. But I found myself using a bunch of different grips.
If your sanding a flat object you could go one handed but I think it's better balanced and way more accurate with the other hand supporting the rear.    (insert sex joke here)

I held the rear by where the hose connects and by the rear grip.

Thing worked some poly out of the corners today. Did a great Job of it too!
Granat couldn't really handle the 3 coats of floor poly but then again most papers get gummed up by that stuff.

I have one fear. That when my RO 90 arrives tomorrow it will be signature required and they guy won't leave it on my porch like they always do. If so, I swear to you all right here and now, I will brave any rush hour traffic and drive to Fed Ex or UPS or whatever it is and pick it up. That's just the kind of commitment I have here people. No sacrifice is too large our daunting.

UPS isn't signature required unless requested.

May want to give this a look/read...

http://blog.festoolusa.com/post/2011/02/18/Why-Technique-Matters.aspx

I agree it has all to do with technique. But for me even the RO 150 is doable one handed in whatever mode. So the Ro 90 must be a piece of cake.

The two handed recommendation is all nice and easy in laboratory conditions when you have a workpiece right at your fingertips in the shop on a table, but when you use it for woodwork on a house a totally different story emerges. And the RO 90 is largely designed with paint work in mind. For painting, you're constantly working with ladders or scaffolds and you're constantly reaching out to hard to reach areas to sand as much surface without having to change your stance.

Especially when you work with a ladder you have to move it often to get to the next spot, and climbing up and down with your gear takes up a lot of time. So you try to do as much area as you can in one position of the ladder and you don't just do the places that are close to your body but reach out as far as possible while still staying safe. Having to secure yourself with one hand to the ladder makes it hard to keep two hands on the sander anyway.

If the preferred holding position is two-handed, then perhaps the main picture advertising it should be changed? It's a little misleading as is.

http://rotex.festoolusa.com/

I wouldn't say it's misleading. You can hold the tool like that if you want, as has been discussed above.

If they changed it to a pic with the two-handed grip, you wouldn't actually be able to see a great deal of the sander, which would kinda make it a bit pointless...

I agree with you Alex, I'm not always in a position to use my tools in a manner that is ideal.  However, it's good that Festool offers advice on how to use the RO90 optimally.
