I had a little spare time this afternoon, which never happens, so I pulled out the Origin. I had drawn up a little holder in Studio, to contain the stuff that I have been letting roll around in the drawer where I keep my drills/drivers. These are the ones that get used the most and not part of a set, which is in a different drawer.
It's just a test on an off-cut of 3/4" MDF. I'll use it a while and see if it needs improvement.
I've got another one for my metric brad-point bits, not cut out yet though.

Curious how long it took you to do that on the origin? I could really benefit from being able to do things like that, but curious about the time required.

[member=66966]jonnyrocket[/member] it's hard to say accurately. I did most of the design at home in Studio. That part only took a few minutes, somewhere between 5-10. Then when I got to actually work on it, I added/modified it a little.
Maybe 10 minutes of cutting and a few more doing some "on-tool" extras.
The box for the stop collar (because I didn't know where it needed to be from home), the pocket in the upper left (because it looked empty) and the 5/16" drill bit on the right (because I forgot about it)
and the vertical holes on the left, were all added at that point.
So, altogether maybe 20 minutes? but that's mostly my fault. Better planning in the first place would have saved some time.
I made modified version today during my lunch break, still not 100% satisfied with it though. The angle is a bit much. It works though, so?

I did a couple more today. I did the Vix bit one in Studio too, but gave it too much clearance. I'll have to re-do that one.
The brad point bit one, I did totally on-tool, because it was super easy to switch it over to metric. I sat there with a metric rule and layed it out in real time. The fun part of that one was the logo. I drew that out with the on-board pen tool. I sketched it out right on the MDF with a pencil and re-scanned the project. This lets the pencil lines show on screen. It's not perfect, but very close to the one on the package.

I’m glad to hear this. Your “hands on the machine time” is actually much less than I imagined it would be.  And the way you described what you were able to do on the machine itself, indicates considerable improvement in capability from when I was first looking into this. That was about the time that the Gen 1 units were just starting to show up in people’s hands.

[member=66966]jonnyrocket[/member] It's not as fast as actual CNC machine, because it is "manual", but there are other advantages. The addition of AutoPass has definitely helped though.
The "on-board" capability is nice and the easy integration of Studio has simplified it a lot too.
