Parallel Guide Improvements

Would there be any demand for offering these ready made for a few dollars a set?  I could perhaps cut them out on my laser from lexan and would probably put the line on the bottom side, laser etched of course. The hole for the bolt would also be laser too.

Best,
Todd

I'd want a pair as well Todd.

+1 please.

Why is it that as I get older manufacturers make letters and markings smaller on items making it harder for me to read!  [big grin]

Hey all,

An update....

Alex and I tried a couple of ideas out but I could not cut Lexan without burning the edge and great difficulty with my laser.  I cut a couple samples in thinner acrylic but IIRC Alex was not sure they would be strong enough.  So, I have gone no further.  Not sure, but Alex must not have gone any further either.  It remains a good idea if a reasonable way can be made to do them.
That's the status from me at this point. I also sold my set of guides to get something I considered much more unobtainable at the time.  I have yet to replace them.

I saw the improvement to the parallel guides on FOG a few months ago and decided to try them myself.  Here are the results.  I am pretty pleased with the way it turned out.

Welcome to the FOG DPeagles.  Nice nod.  I'm overdue for the same type mod myself.  Thanks for posting. [smile]

Would be nice if Festool offered an upgrade like this.

Thanks.  Just love the festool stuff.  A ton of good info to be found here on the the FOG.

Nice!

Looks like your approach was very similar to mine.

A couple questions:

What are you using for the cursor clear plate material?

How thick is it?

Overall size of your material?

Are you satisfied with the strength and durability of it?

Nicely done!

Todd

It was just plain plexiglass.  About  1/8 inch I think.  Just some scrap I had in the shop.  I don't know how durable it will be, haven't used it to actually work yet.  I will update you guys after I use it a bit.

depeagles..... looks great

and yep that is one of the major problems with the parallel guides is that they flop on the ends and that little add on makes them much better hopefully FESTOOL will add this type of add on to they next batch of guides, if they make an updated version this would be a no brainer to add on

I see you are in charlotte  next time I am up their I will have to stop by for a visit....

email me your contact info..
