pdc 18 initial lube needed

the manual says it : prior to initial use apply grease to the drill spindle and gear-box neck.
drill spindle is, i assume, the Shaft-end protruding outside the drill
What is gear-box neck

Think it's the round part where you attach the auxiliary handle.

That's what I think is meant too.

I took the time to download the pdc manual (which apparently goes through ekat nowadays) to see if it's more clear in a different language (sometimes manuals come up  with bogus words by using a literal translation) but it didn't get much clearer.

I also checked the printed manual that came with my old protool pdc, and there only the spindle is mentioned that "should be painted with a thin layer of multi purpose grease" before first use.

It wasn't well described in the PDC manual, but I was able to confirm my thoughts with the manual from the QUADRILL DR 18/4 E and PD 20/4 E where it's explicitly mentioned along with a diagram.

In the Festool manuals, the items being described are coloured grey in the diagrams, so the observations above are confirmed as correct with this diagram below;

I asked Lee Valley about this; they contacted Festool, who sent this reply:

Thank you for contacting Festool. The drill spindle comes with multi-purpose grease already applied so there is no need for the end user to apply additional grease to this component. The drill spindle is the connection that receives all the different Festool chucks.

So, make a visual inspection and confirm that there is a layer of grease. If not, apply a dab. Or just apply a dab to ne sure. Wipe off any excess.
