Hi,

I'm just about to sell a property I've refurbished. We've put down 130m2 of Engineered Walnut Flooring. Basically, the top layer (5mm) the customer see's is Walnut.

It's got a satin lacquer finish which is fine. Now, it's been hoovered, washed and now has dried. Alas, their are a few "streaks" on it - where the water has dried on the wood. Which, if I get on my hands and knees, I can clean off. I don't want to do this backbreaking work when I've got a Rotex 150.

So, my question to you boys (and girls) is... What pad would you use to clean this up with. And would you use any form of polish as well. I am happy with the finish I've got - just want to get rid of the streak marks...

Should I be using the "Polishing pad FastFix PT-STF D150 FX-RO150" 493914 and then a polishing sponge and polishing agent ? If so, which combination - seeing as you know exactly what flooring I've got.

Paul.

p.s. I do not want to end up with a skating rink and kill all potential purchasers !

Well, after a little reading I might have the answer...

Polishing pad FastFix PT-STF D150 FX-RO150 493914 (Pad) - Nice and soft - not like the sanding pads.
Polishing felt PF-STF-D150x10-W/1 485972 (Felt) x 1
Polishing felt PF-STF-D150x10-W/5 488347 (Felt) x 5
Sheepskin LF-STF-D150/1 484131 or
Premium sheepskin LF-PREM.-STF-D150/1 493838

And an appropriate polishing "cream"... I might see if I can get a similar cream, but cheaper ?!? Suggestions ?? UK ONLY !

Seems like it would be a lot easier to re-wash the floor with distilled water and vinegar.....Most likely the streaks are caused by either hard water or your floor cleaner.

Oh... Kevin... I think you might have a good point...

We are in a hard water area... I've got some distilled water in the shed. I will give it a go..

Please note, this might not stop me using this as and excuse to purchase new toys and lie to the better half !!

Paul...

ps. Would it be a bucket of distilled water and a "dash" of vinegar ? I know the term "Dash" is quite a loose one - but I think we both know what it means !

I wouldn't use the vinegar and water as it will affect the finish over time. As I remember Kahrs recommends against both vinegar or ammonia cleaners and wet mopping will create grain raise in your floor.  Kahrs uses Bona factory finishes for their products so I'd suggest you look into the Bona spray cleaner (it need not be the professional version.) It is ph neutral so you should have no problems with any wood flooring. They have a microfiber pad system for cleaning and I'd just spray the pad instead of the floor. http://www.bonapro.com/Care/FloorCare.aspx In the interest of full disclosure I happen to distribute Bona products to the hardwood refinishing professionals where I live but this is common knowledge in the flooring community.

I've attempted to sand that Kahrs flooring (Walnut) and what ever they use to lacquer it is VERY tough. I've got it down in my house and 3 years of two 4 stone German wirehaired pointers fighting on it... Still just fine... Well, I say that... Their are little areas where I think some of the lacquer has lifted. I need to chat to Kahrs about that. I'll look at your bonapro stuff

You will probably need some vinegar to dissolve hard water deposits on the floor, just distilled water will get rid of any soap scum.  I wouldn't worry too much about the floors finish, just don't use a ton of vinegar.  A "dash" should do it.
