Pricing on Festool USA website taken down?

It must only go one way because I have bought a number of items from Lee Valley and they were shipped to me in the U.S. with no duties or tariffs of any sort.

Lee Valley ships from the US to US customers.

I think the reason for the difference in pricing from country to country is very simple: The Cost of Doing Business.

Kapex CDN$ 1,800;  USD$1,300.  Apparently, the cost of doing business in Canada is higher than in the US (for now), so the prices reflect that.  We have no national health care or mandatory health insurance for employers to buy.  They do in Canada and that cost has to be passed on.  I am just using this as an example because it is at the top of current events discussion in the USA right now.  What are businesses required to pay for in countries with higher prices?  What are the citizens lacking in countries with lower prices?

Wino,

Thats actually a very good point.  Someone has to pay for the health care, it certainly is not free.

No, health care certainly isn't free.  As a nation, we spend more (per person) than any other country.  Yet we're near the bottom of the industrialized world in terms of outcomes (measured by things like length of life, infant mortality, etc.).  We certainly should be doing something different!

Claiming that you need to know U.S. prices so you can buy over here on your vacation is B.S. and you all know it. Your desire for information is curiosity only, and has no bearing on sales.
Rick, it is not B.S.  I have purchased Festool  tools in the USA while on vacation several times.

I regard Festool USA as being rather silly and naive   if they really think that stopping me from seeing the prices on their web site  is going to stop me for finding out what the US price is any more than about a minute.  All this restriction does is make me a little annoyed.

i agree with your statement whole heartedly frank.

i can see no legal reason why they would hide the prices on their website.
if the rest of the world can show their prices, why cant festoolusa.com.

someone at the top thinks they are being smart, i beg to differ..........

Frank, I don't think they are trying to stop you from seeing the pricing completely, only not the Festool USA site. As I've said on here a number of times now I believe it's to help prevent confusion between American and Canadian users. After all they say see dealer for pricing and then they have links to Festool dealers so I can't believe they are trying to hide anything.

thanks for the advice wonderwino. but i think you are missing the point.
i can try to give an example, so people can understand my point of view.

recently, i walked into a car showroom, they are german brand  who make cars and vans.
i asked the salesman why i cannot find the price list on the website. he starts to stumble, and eventually says something about it being illegal in australia to show car prices on their website.
i know this is rubbish as other companies are happy to show their prices.

i walk away thinking, i will never come near this place again. i dont like being lied to, especially when i am about to invest AU$70,000 for a new van.
my gut feeling was that he or the company were trying to hide something from me, the consumer. i voted with my feet, and walked away.

regards, justin.

Brice, Canadians have had a lifetime of being inundated with stuff from the USA.  Any Canadian reading prices from a USA web site knows fullwell that the prices are in US dollars and that, usually, the item will cost more in Canada.

Frank, sure you guys up north aren't new to US verses Canadian pricing. I'd offer this, the Festool USA and Canada site's are identical, one could easily confuse which site they are on. As I already posted both US and Canadian users have used the Festool USA site in the past. Old bookmarks could direct Canadian users to the US site inadvertently possible causing confusion.

By the way, when I visit the Festool Canada site I get see dealer for pricing instead of the price. Am I upset by this, absolutely not, in fact, I couldn't care less. Sure it's lees important to me because the prices are cheaper here but still I just don't see the big deal.
