Problem with PSC 420 Blade Ejection Position

Hi guys!

Against better judgement and knowledge I finally succumbed to buying a (fairly new but used) PSC 420 EB cordless jigsaw as the cable on my corded PS 420 EBQ is seemingly 5 inches too short when having to work outside.

While going through the fiddly set up part to get the blade guide aligned I noticed that 3 out of 4 times the rod stops in random places somewhere midstroke, i.e. I need to push it back in first in order to activate the blade ejection mechanism.

Edit: on another note I just found out that the rod contacts the blade guide roller bearing and I can wiggle the roller bearing up and down by almost 1/32 inch (on my corded one the roller bearing is rock solid)

Has anyone had this problem and is there any solution to this issue?

This happens with me every now and again and it is easy to overcome...

Most times I can push the mechanism up to get the blade release tab lined up with the blade release pusher. It can be a dash hard at times and so I just raise the clear plastic dust guard so I can get my fingers in there and push the blade release tab with my finger. I do remove the battery before doing any of this !

I have 2 cordless Carvex saws. Both do it. While holding the saw, I just push the end of the blade against a solid surface. This pushes the blade to the top of the stroke. The blade change lever then works.

Cool, thanks a lot guys! Never happened with my 420 EBQ, so I was slightly concerned as to whether it had seen more action than the previous owner had stated. Though quite frankly it is a bit of an annoying design flaw considering it comes with a 400 quid price tag... I'm glad I got it very reasonably priced [big grin]

Please do not force the blade holder into ejection position, the cordless Carvex can do it by itself.

Just run it (without cutting anything) after a few second it resets (you can see it happen).

The blade ejection on that thing is so poorly designed.  They are basically forcing us to manually push up on the silly thing and it usually entails putting your fingers close to a crazy sharp blade. I’ll pull the trigger 6 times and the saw still won’t stop in the right spot. Every other time I go to switch blades I have to fiddle with that dang ejector and I find myself just going to my cordless dewalt jigsaw.  The handle is way better on the yellow cheapie too. Such a first world problem but if I was developing this jigsaw I would never stop the design faze at, yeah it stops in the right place to eject the blade sometimes. Also a hot blade makes it even more fun.

[member=14853]Jaybolishes[/member] have you watched the video I linked above? The Carvex will return the blade holder to original position, if you switch it on again, and give it a couple of seconds. Sedge explains that pretty well, also why it happens.

Yes, they key is to let it run, not just a touch the switch, then it doesn’t work. You see it align, and your know it’s good.
