Question about the L32 System… last pin drilled.

Is there a way to reference the "last pin" drilled.  Specifically, if I need additional holes past what the 55" rail affords, how is the last pin referenced.  I'm trying to avoid having to purchase a 95" rail as this requirement will only be needed in a few instances.

Why not just use two 1400 holy rails (496939)?  They couple together well using the LR 32 Guide Rail Index (496938) to set the hole spacing dead nuts on the money.  You don't need the longer "Holy" rail.  When you join the two "Holy" rails, you get a longer rail (110") than just using the 95" "Holy" rail, and the 1400s are easier to store and transport.

Why not just use two 1400 holy rails (496939)?  They couple together well using the LR 32 Guide Rail Index (496938) to set the hole spacing dead nuts on the money.  You don't need the longer "Holy" rail.   When you join the two "Holy" rails, you get a longer rail (110") than just using the 95" "Holy" rain, and the 1400s are easier to store and transport. 
Now that is a smart idea. Why didn't I think of this before? I have two holy 1400's and never thought of this. Please don't tell me it was in the LR32 manual as that would make me regret not reading it :)

This is BRILLIANT!  Sometimes I have a hard time believing that not all solutions require complex configurations!

You don't need two holy rails.  You can join a plain 55 and do it sort of like you would with the little plastic templates.  Instead of using a shelf pin to register you use the router bit locked in the plunged position.

It's a little tedious and requires joining the two rails 3 times.  

You do the two columns for the first half and then finish both the columns for the second half.

Attach a plain rail to make the combination longer than the work piece so you can clamp both ends.  

Do the first end as you normally would, you'll just be clamping that far end at the end of the plain rail.  

Now for the second column you have to flip flop the rails.  So do that and bore the second column of holes.  The bottom half is done.

Now for the other half of the first column of holes.  Keep the rails joined as they are.

You'll use one edge stop ready at the far end and register using the plunged router bit.  This is our equivalent of using a shelf pin to register a plastic template.

Plunge and lock the router.  With the see-saw down in the last position put the bit in the last hole you bored, the end of the line.  That end will be lined up for dead sure.  The edge stop will line up the other.  Clamp and get after it.  

Now for the other half of column 2.  Flip flop the rails a third time and register with the plunged bit.

Of course you've got the other side panel to do so it would be better to do each step on each panel iteratively.  And if it's a whole library? Well.....  there is something to be said for that second holy rail.  

Tedious as I said but it works.  I've done it.

Just remember that you'll need two Guide Rail Connectors (482107) to join the rails and the LR 32 Guide Rail Index (496938) to set the hole spacing.  Recommend that you also consider getting the Betterley SLC23 StraightLine Connector for Guide Rails to help ensure that the rails are in perfect alignment.  As for using one Holy rail with one standard rail, given that there's only $5 difference between the two, just get two Holy rails and be done with it.  I'm into efficiency, not tedium.  Sorry, fshanno. 

And another thing, you might want to consider using the screws in this message to replace the screws that come with the Guide Rail connectors.  You'll need a 3mm hex wrench to tighten them.
