questions on trim prep

I have been trying to finish trimming a room in my house and I now need to fill , caulk and paint. Iam not a pro at this part and would like some recommendations on the steps to get from rough to finish. Also looking for products that you use. I am thinking of spraying as well but have seen in other posts that ever thing needs to be covered and taped. I would like to use an acrylic based paint as I have sprayed it before and loved the results. I have a fuji mini mite 4

I installed the header in the summer and it has shrunk, should of glued it

Turn the gun 90* so the nail holes run with the grain instead of across it. Easier to camo them. That's just a quick simple point of style. That is nice looking paint grade trim. Looks like poplar.
 
Nice looking work. Use SW Wall &Wood primer liberally.
