QUICK KAPEX QUESTION ON CUTTING CAPACITY

Good Day:

I own a Kapex and was wondering if there is a work around to miter cut 5 1/4" baseboard trim in the vertical position.

Also, could someone go over using the bevel lock lever (page 13 in manual).  There is a warning on the page that refers to premature wear to the bevel limits.  If I want to cut a 45 deg. do I select the +- 45 deg.?

Thanks for your help,

Michael

Michael,
I have been researching all the info on this saw as I am trying to convince myself I should buy it!
Can't answer you heighth question but can help a little on the bevel question.  Take a look at the video's Gary m Katz did on Youtube - Festool Kapex Demo: Mastering Finish Carpentry, Part 2 and also his review at http://www.garymkatz.com/ToolReviews/Kapex.htm.

Based on what I have read  the 0 -45 degrees setting let's you cut from 0 up to 45 degrees on the left.  The +-45 degree setting lets you cut up to 45 degree on both the left and right side.
Let us know what you think of the saw.

No, the maximum cutting height is 12 cm. (And you have to remove the rubber dustfunnel, which greatly reduces dustcollection)

Also, could someone go over using the bevel lock lever (page 13 in manual).  There is a warning on the page that refers to premature wear to the bevel limits.  If I want to cut a 45 deg. do I select the +- 45 deg.?
NOTICE: These settings are not hard-limits, and turning the bevel adjustment knob into one of the limit settings will cause the spring loaded limit to be bypassed. However, it should be noted that doing so can cause premature wear to the bevel limits.
I think this means you can bevel past the stops if you apply enough force, but that it's not adviseable to do so.

If you want to bevel 45 deg to the left, you can leave it in the 0 to 45 position, if you want to bevel 45 deg to the right, you have to select the +- 45 deg position. in the +-45 deg position there is no detent/stop at 0 deg, so if you need to make a non bevel cut after a beveled to the right cut, you have to switch back to the 0 to 45 position.

Hi:

Thanks for the help with the bevel lock.  It all makes sense now.

Too bad that the cutting capacity is under 5 1/4" .  I sold my 12" Hitachi SCM saw and all my base I am redoing is 5 1/4"

The dual lasers are a very nice feature, accuracy (very solid feeling) and the dust collection are a definite improvement over the Hitachi.

Thanks again,
Michael

Based on the specs (in Brice Burrell's review) its 12 inches at 90 degrees, up to 3 by (actually 3 15/32") and  8 15/32" up to 3 by (actually 3 15/32") at 45 degrees. There's a 4 23/32" x 3/4" 'special cutting depth'.
