I'm waffling between replace the power cord on my Midi, or just the male end that has lost its grounding prong.  Input?

Is it in warranty?  If so - send it in.  Otherwise the correct answer for being on this forum would be to replace the cord with a Festool one.  But then there are many of us - myself included - who sport a replacement plug end on older CT's.  Mine replacement end was installed to get rid of the adapter pigtail that came on my CT.

Thank you Peter.  It is not under warranty.  Any idea the gauge of the cord wire? 12 perhaps?

I use 12 gauge 25 ft on all my tools that need new cords.

A little more than a year ago I sent an out-of-warranty CT26 for service. The quote included a new turbine, a new hose garage and a new cord.
I asked for them to send me the old cord with the repaired CT.
The old cord could have been re-used on my CT and I will make an extension cord with it.
BUT … the replacement cord on my CT is a much lighter gauge than the original.
Can’t give you specifics, but you should make detailed inquiry at Festool repair center.

If it's only the plug that's damaged and the cord is fine, why wouldn't you just replace that, unless you wanted to wire in a much longer cord?

Welcome to the forum!  [smile]

What model Midi do you have?

Replacing the plug would be the easiest. Just be sure to get a good quality, heavy duty one.

On the other hand I replaced the power cords on all of my CTs because I wanted them to be shorter and much more flexible.  99% of the time I only need 10' - 12' of cord which mean that 99% of the time the additional length is a nuissance. There are also much more flexible cords available. I went with 12ga.

It was only ever a problem to us in the US, but back in the day CTs used to come with 20amp (120v) plugs. This made sense, because the thing was potentially turning on another tool too, with all of the power running through it. The problem was that very few job sites had the proper outlets, even if they were wired to a 20amp breaker. This required and adaptor or a replacement plug.
The CT22, we had back then had a very short triple-tap cord that was dedicated to it, and stored with it, just for that reason.

The plug on my CT26 ended up getting a broken ground pin out of warranty(I think, it was a few years ago).  The whole cord is obviously more expensive than just replacing a plug end with something from Home Depot, but it was not unreasonable and is easy enough to DIY replace the whole cord/plug to get it good as new if you order the part from Festool USA.

[member=81095]ToolMe[/member] , the wire gauge should be molded into the cord itself.

I was surprised to learn that my OG CT-MINI (with the dial controls) has a 12 gauge cord on it; the CT-MIDI-I only has a 14 gauge cord.

This also explains why the OG cord doesn't fit in the hose garage nearly as well with a hose; I've since remedied that by installing the MIDI-I cord wrap accessory on the MINI.
