Dont get me wrong I love my festool stuff, I have both dominos, a rotex, ct36, etc.

But I purchased the mft3 over the weekend from my local woodcraft, and I am just not happy with it. I have read all the posts on here about how to calibrate it, and it has just been too much of a hassle, for $600 I expect a less flaky system. Is the MFT 3 covered under the 30 day return policy, and if so to add  a slight wrinkle my wife threw away the cardboard box it came in, how  would that effect the return?

I'm curious as to what you find so flaky about the MFT/3?  I have two and love them.  Calibration is very easy from my viewpoint, although less than intuitive.  There really are some good techniques for doing the job.  Where are you located, BTW?  Perhaps a FOG member nearby might be able to mentor you.

The MFT is considered a tool and qualifies for the 30 day return. I'm not going to speak for the dealer, but I'm guessing the lack of a box should not be much of an issue.

I don't even know where the stupid fence is for mine, never used the table for cross cuts I have better things to cross cut with.

Point being, ahhh nevermind.

As stated already the MFT/3 is considered a tool so it falls within our 30 day money back gurantee even with out the box.
I would suggest taking a look at the video below before you do so.  I think it might help your set up wow's.  you can also contact me directly if you have more specific questions.

I was within an hour of packing up my ts75 and mft and returning it to hit the 30 day policy. I liked the table, but for the price I paid I needed it to do its primary job which was allow me to make the square cuts, and it wasn't. Browsing the internet I found alot of people in my boat, and many who kept it but just abandoned the fence and used it in other ways.

I had watched countless alignment videos both with squares and dogs, I bought quaz dogs, I bought a woodpecker square I bought the stupid stabilizers that should be included with the table for the price, I bought a slop stop.

but no matter what I was always  an 8th out over about 18 inches, or it would drift to an 1/8 out after a few cuts

Right before boxing it up I I tried it this way

and it worked like a charm right off. Not only can I align it quickly it stays aligned. This guy  just saved a $1500 sale for festool and woodcraft, and whats more I love my mft now.

As the guy who did the video - thank you for the comment!  Hopefully you will get lots of usage out of your MFT and will have time to experiment with the way you work and share what you come up with.

I love my MFT/3's and did a couple of videos on set-up. If you go through the process once it gets pretty quick to get accurate results. I use them with an without the fence. I actually have been using some new dogs I received on a few different projects and have enjoyed the quick set-up and accurate results with this method as well.

Per the statement in the first section the tool should be returnable. All 8 of my MFT 3's have serial numbers. It is not clear about the box issue.

Obviously, I like the MFT.

That is awesome! I could see adding one more, but I have no room for 8...but that would open up some options and set-up for sure.

I could use another MFT.

Now I need to find where the serial numbers are located.

I must admit I turned to YouTube for first time setting up my MFT/3 as the Festool instructions were not much help at all.

To the OP

This maybe a little late but....

Did you use a known good square square to set up yer MFT?

That is the biggest issue I find with people having problems. I had that problem to. I used something I thought was square and got poor results. Then I got a Woodpeckers square and I'm getting very good results.

Once you get a square square there are other things to do as well to really tune that puppy in.

But it all starts with a square square
