Part of what makes a good tool great is the availability of accessories.  The Centrotec Bit Holder BHS 65mm is one such accessory that really expands the capability of your Festool drill and your non-Festool drill alike.  This accessory allows you to use Centrotec bits and standard bits with the Centrotec chuck.  The length of the bit holder is 2 9/16 inches long.

When the bit holder is installed in the Centrotec chuck, it extends 1 3/8 inches from the end of the chuck to the end of the bit holder.  In the Centrotec chuck, this set-up still allows you to use it in tight spaces with your Festool drill.  You can use the bit holder with the standard drill chuck too.
One of the little things I noticed with the bit holder is that it has a little green colored ring around the shank, almost like an o-ring.  You know that you have installed the bit holder in the Centrotec chuck properly when the colored ring is just above the chuck.  It snaps into place and locks securely.  I believe that this is a feature common to all Centrotec drivers and bits.

The BHS 65mm features a magnetic tip and a spring loaded quick release that makes changing drill bits and drivers a snap.  The quick release has a knurled knob that allows you to grip it securely and just like the Centrotec chuck, it opens and closes easily.

With the Centrotec drill bits, the magnetic tip secures the drill bit in place and you just pull it on and off.  With standard drill bits and drivers as well as with Centrotec driver bits, they lock securely in the bit holder and you need to use the spring release mechanism to remove them.  This feature allows you to not only use this bit holder with your Festool drill and Centrotec chuck, but also with any other brand drill on the market.  Simply insert the bit holder into a standard chuck and you are good to go.

For those of you that have invested in various Festool drill bits and drivers or if you want to add these exceptional bits and drivers to your collection, you can now utilize this tooling with your non-Festool drill and still have access to a quick-change system.  I found that the BHS 65mm works well with the standard chuck and the Centrotec chuck.  While it does fit into the end of the drill without a chuck attached and into the ends of the other available chucks, I found it did not lock securely and tended to wobble a little bit and I would not recommend using it with these other chucks unless you are in a pinch.

At $29.50 (at the time of this posting), I would say that the BHS 65mm is a bargain and worth every penny.  It is very solid and greatly expands the use of your Festool drill and other branded drills in your toolkit.

Scot, I'm glad you did a review on this accessory. I think it's easily overlooked in the line up and offers a great solution to a common problem. Just a reminder that accessories are also eligible for entry in our review contest.

Well done!  [thumbs up]

Thanks, Shane!  The spring mechanism is much smoother than other brands I have used too which is a plus.  Fantastic accessory.
