Review of the new kapex stand

Wind Man ?  You got the green apple splatter again John  [tongue]

Yea, Yea i will get the stand.  Get the feeling all you guys have a gun to my head now  [crying]  My dealer is not giving me a good price for the stand & extensions so i will have a look around for a better deal, well i am a Scotsman after all  [poke] [scratch chin]

i couldn't resist. i sprung for the kapex ug stand. Without the support rails though. i already have the saw helper and can still use those. just got the cart for mobility. i couldn't justify the extra $350 for the support wings when i already have a good pair

Hi Woodguy,

You know you want to. It would look right at home at the far end of your workshop. [smile]

Wasnt the green apples was a blackpudding. Made by JMB [big grin]
John

Ohh, sorry i asked  [blink]  What you guys doing messing about with blackpudding ?  Thats a Scottish dish, you will be at the Haggis next  [poke]

How dare you claim a good, English dish as your own! [tongue]

Black pudding is a Lancastrian dish (although being a proud Yorkshireman I'd never stoop so low as to eat that foreign muck!).

[big grin]

well I had a chance to use the stand today at a job we were doing and took several pictures.  one of the pictures show up close the bracket for attachment to the Kapex. along with my security label on the saw.  Very simple.
Next is how easy the stand addapts to different terreran.  We were working in a room in the rear of the house right off the sun room, and it was a beartiful day and scenery so I just set up right outside the door.  on the lawn!!!  but this time with stand !!!   the stand worked beautifully.  It was very easy to roll it from my van all the way up the grass slope to the back, no problems with the wheels and it set up quick and easy.

the other pictures is showing how it fits into my van , very compact and easy to just lift up and set in.

Looks good. The saw, the stand, and the backyard.
Wish we had your weather. It's been cold, rain/snowy/ice, and wind here.
Tim

70 deg  [scared]  trhats like 21deg in our money.  Its about 4 deg her today which is 39.2 to you  [crying]

do both sides of the supports extend or only the one of the left? one question i thought of was if you could possible gang up a second support to extend the length and also adding another leg for support

Both extend so you have 2400mm on either side of the cut, in other words you have a support of 4.8metres.

I think thats 15 feet 9 inches to you guys!! [tongue]

what is on the end of the extensions. could you put on a bracket for another wing (maybe the old wing ye all have left lying around when ye bought the new set)

yes i know that, but i don't like how the end of a 16 foot board will dangle when you slide your board all the way to the left to make a clean cut on the end of a board. the slide out extension looks fine for light material but with out a leg under it i have my doubts about it for something very heavy like a soaking wet pressure treated deck board or composite decking which is also very heavy.   so im wondering if i can extend the length of it by sliding out the extension then using the extension as a spline to slide on yet another rail with its own leg on the end so i can drop a 2x12 beam on there = )

Yes, theoretically you could do that. A second extension could slip over the extending part of the first.

You would need to drill & tap a hole in the back edge, to put an extra knob in there to lock it into place (in the same way that the knob on the back locks the extending part in place).

At the end of the extension there is a small locking nut (Allen Key) that supports a small stop. If you removed that then I suppose it is possible. Not sure how you would lock the second extension to the first though unless you jury rigged a clamp or something underneath.

The leg on the first extension pivots at 48inches on the extension and while that stuff Kreg was using was floppy I think with a more solid piece it is unlikely to flop around.

I have only had mine a couple of days so dont want to speculate but I think it would be fine. Maybe some UK guys have chopped heavy lengths of stuff and can chip in or we could ask Kreg to do another video with a length of decking??

yes but kreg was sent the stand to post a glowing review, not to reveal any possible faults it might have for some people = ) lol    just teasing. like i said it was just a thought i had and may not be needed. But if possible it is just another marketing idea festool could use to sell more extensions = )
