We got some new granite countertops and now I have to make the backsplash. I found some 5/8" square x 4mm thick glass tile that we like at HD on closeout. It was $1.73/square, down from $6.97. They old countertops were plywood and formica with the formica wrapped up the wall and glued. When it got pulled off the wall and a straight slab of granite stuck next to it, I suddenly realized that the wall had a bow of about 3/4" over 5 feet. I never noticed it and I've lived there since '98.

Anyway, I need to flatten that surface so I got some metal lath and Easy Sand to fill the concavity. As can be seen in the above image, the wall has glue and paint plus, being a kitchen, the paint is probably has a film on it. I want my repair to stick real well so I wanted to take it down to bare plaster and generally clean things up. In comes the RO 90! This shows what I want to clean up in that area. It also shows what came with the RO 90 for rotational sanding. There's a selection of Granat and some Vlies.

So I took a disk of P60 Granat and went to town on the wall(s) in Rotex mode. After a little while, the wall looked like this:

and the sandpaper looked like this:

I also used the delta pad for the corner but didn't take any pix.

I cut some lath and stuck it to the wall. I also made a rail so that I had a sort of screed gauge. That's it at the edge of the granite where the wall should be. I made a screed out of some scrap MDF and a couple of cuts so that when I run it along the back underside of the cabinets and my screed gauge, it will be at the depth where the wall should have been. I'm not proficient enough with a trowel or knife to do this freehand so I needed to come up with something that is a crutch.

I mixed up some Easy Sand and plastered it on. This evening, I'll do it again and keep doing it until I get out to my screed.

My impression of the RO 90 is that it is plenty powerful and gentle at the same time. My impression of the Granat is that it isn't as tough as Rubin but also doesn't seem to clog with either glue or latex paint.

I'm taking pre-orders for the RO 90 DX and it's 90mm diameter paper. The 93mm delta paper is already available except for the Granat, which will ship on March 1.

Thanks for telling us about your use of the RO 90 Tom -but it's not fair that you get to use the RO 90 before the rest of us do.  ??? On the other hand, I guess that we should want out dealers to have tested the tools that we might be purchasing from them.  [big grin]

I wish I were in the area to take you up on that  (but not living there, just visiting  [tongue]).

it realy is reasurring to know that our dealers know the tools .
my local dealer staff are almost all woodworkers (exept for one of their girlfriends who is sick of tools) they each know tools and how to do things . one even bought 20 systainers to put his tools in.
