Ro 90 or ro150

Hey Chris. I got a 'starter pack' with mine - one each of a selection of selection of discs and deltas. Nothing to write home about tbh - you know you're going to buy a box or three of Granat, each in different grits  ;)

I first bought  the ro150 then ro90 then ls130.
the ro150 is a great sander  but a bit big for smaller work. I didn't expect to but I use my ro90 more than anything else.

it depends on what work your doing.
if its smaller and need to get into corners then ro90 all the way and use your other sander for larger work.

most things I sand now are fairly smooth anyway so not a lot of heavy removal required

if you need heavy sanding then its got to be the ro150 . nothing beats it.
I would love to see a race between a good belt sander and a ro150  on something like a wide band sawn board

Just picked up the RO90 Saturday!  I LOVE my 150, but wow, the 90 fits into some tight spots.

Get both.

its a great sander isn't it.
I must buy the extendable delta pad .

I used my multimaster before I bought the ro90 . I haven't even tried sanding with it since

I have just bought another multimaster but I must admit the old model wasn't all that for sanding. Not tried with the new one yet.

I'm swinging toward the 90 I must admit

It's amazing!  I never thought sanding could be so much fun.  I am actually looking forward to sanding some 60 linear feet of handrail  ;D

I'd be interested to know how much better it is in real life over the Metabo you already have - in turbo mode. Would love to have a reason to upgrade - but I guess a 90 is more of a complimentary device right? Rhetorical of course, it's just a gateway sanding drug.

I've got the old Non turbo 450, its been OK it was my first decent sander. Im probably going to get a demo of them both but I'm definitely going towards the 90

The GTi.

I agree on the 90, for what it's worth [tongue]

Aaah, that does make the decision more difficult.

I started out with the old rotex E 150. i love it. It just keeps going must be over 15 years old now. Couple years ago i got the ro 90 and as many have saaid it is my go to sander now because of weight and the delta pad. So versitile.
One thing i like about the 150 sanding discs is you can use the old ones on the festool sanding blocks. The unsung heros in my workshop they come in hard and soft.
I often see here in germany the old rotex E 150 on ebay maybe an option?
I picked up an old R 2 which was cheep on ebay. Lovely sander.
I would stick to the 150 size not the 125 because of sanding discs. Then when you get the ETS 150/3 same discs.

Not to derail the thread, but I can answer that to an extent. We're going back a few years, but like Chris I also had a Metabo 450 Duo - the older version of the 450 Turbo; BTW, by all accounts the 'Turbo' feature doesn't make much difference, and Metabo are quite coy when it comes to describing what exactly the 'Turbo' does - they say "mobilising more power" but that could mean anything TBH.

Anyway, I was happy enough with my Metabo - changing between the orbits was a bit janky, and ergonomically it was a bit of a mess, tall, so prone to being a bit tippy, and heavy for its size, but I'm a woodworker not a tool junkie (honest!) so happy enough. Then I picked up a used ETS 150/5 on eBay; it was cheap, and when it arrived had clearly done some hard, hard work in a car body shop somewhere. Not expecting too much I slapped on a disc, plugged it in... and it blew the Metabo away in every respect - smooth, quiet, lightweight, powerful.

As I say this was a few years ago; I sold the Metabo soon after, but I still have that first Festool sander, and it's still going strong without any special treatment. Well, I bought it a new pad  ;)

So anyway, Metabo 450 vs Rotex 150 = no comparison IHMO; totally different animals. But you should try them for yourself, for the kind of work that you do.

Fair enough on the finesse of a Festool sander, however I do have the Turbo and find it quite aggressive so that's more the comparison I need to make.

Admittedly the changing of the orbits is the exact opposite of awesome, but then it was a third the price. I've got a variable speed grinder (Metabo funnily enough) for anything a bit more mental.

I know I'll eventually end up with a Rotex, and it'll most likely be a 90 to compliment the sander I already have. Provided the 450 doesn't die today when I am flattening out some self levelling that somebody kindly left to level on its own - which of course it doesn't. I might post that person the dust I am about to clog a vacuum up with too.

Had a demo of both the Sanders today by Bob from festool . I've learnt a lot but I still don't know what one to get lol. I'm thinking maybe get the bigun for now then get the 90 down the line :)

If you want a proper sander get the Mirka Ceros  [wink] cheaper than either of the festool sanders and a joy to use. If you want to have a play with one then give me a bell.

Does the Mirka come with the delta shaped pad?

IMHO, the delta addition to the RO90 is a game changer.  It's like having two sanders in one.

+ 1 on that
