Rotex 150 - Gears not working

Hi. I have a Rotex 150. The gears seem to have stopped working in both the coarse and fine settings. The motor still runs well. When I press on the center aluminum disk under the pad, the gears seem to begin to mesh (I'm assuming its the gears I'm hearing).

The sander is about 6 years old. It has been used lightly. The Rotex has worked fine for many hours until now.

Does anyone have any suggestions other than sending the tool in for repair?

I have not tried taking it apart yet, but may try this tonight.

I know it's not what you want to hear but, I really would send it for service. I'm thinking that it's a fairly complicated "transmission" in there. Might be one of those extra parts situations, when trying to put it back together. Plus, if it needs parts, you have that to deal with too.
