I am thinking of buying one of the two routers.  I am looking to trim up veneer tape for cabinets and do round overs in general.  I have a large router in a router table already so I don't need a big one.

Which one is better for laminate trimming and round over.  Anything that you really like on either model?

thanks!

I just posted a couple of replies about this last week.  To answer your question directly I'd say the MFK is better, but....it's really not that simple. For veneer tape edge banding, 5/8" or less solid wood edging, laminate work, smaller grooves (with the edge guide) and round overs and other small bit profiles the MFK excels.  But it's not good for a whole lot more since the bit size and visibility is so limited.  Also, it doesn't come cheap, by the time you add the 0 degree base to the MFK you'll have a lot of money invested.  That's not a problem it you get a lot of use out of it.

The 1010 is an all purpose router that you can get a lot more everyday use out of.  Add the edge plate-angle arm and it does a good job on edge router too.  It costs less even with a nice range of accessories.

So if you're looking for the best bang for the buck the 1010 and accessories are the way to go.  If you do a lot of edge trimming, and can justify the expense, the MFK is the better tool.

On wood veneer or laminate, I prefer the 700. I didn't read Brice's post but he is correct the 1010 will also work and is more versatile. Neither work well on thin PVC edge banding, for that the dual blade hand trimmer works best.
