Hi all
Looking for some input, thoughts about an additional sander(s) to the arsenal and about my understanding and use of interface pads.
I currently have the RO 150, RO 90 and ETS 150/5 EC at my disposal.
I'm looking at this from a serving board/cheese board angle to give you some background made out of Oak, Dark Walnut or Wild Olive.
The Oak/Walnut would have a round over or bevel edge depending on the shape of the board where as the Olive would be more natural.
Issue #1
During the last batch I found the bevel sanding was a mission because it was narrow and small.
Delta head on RO-90 worked but it is uncomfortable and awkward. ETS 150 is too large but possible.
Logically an RTS/DTS 400 is the answer, but I assume any 1/4 Sander would work for this? Do any of you use other makes for this sort of narrow sanding post routing of your bevels? Or should I just stick to what I know and resign myself to the Festool sander "bug" like everyone else [wink]
Issue #2
This is the harder one. For the rounded over edges I'm using the ETS EC with the super soft pad and interface pad.
The ETS EC still feels a little large for this but its light enough and balanced enough that it is fine.
I found that cheap interface pads don't hold up, the Festool 150mm pad is doing way better.
The Wild Olive is a completely differently animal. Tried the RO90 with interface and the interface didn't last long and this was the Festool version. It is a dense wood and lots of nooks and crannies, think there is too many edges to catch on.
RO-90 doesn't have a super soft pad and even then it would probably be too aggressive without a sponge between it.
So I'm using the 150 again.
I'm now debating a 125mm sander for the edge work instead of the 150. Am I crazy?
Lets go with crazy for now, which way do I go?
Regular ETS 125 because of its size and price but it only has 2mm orbit.
ETS 125/3 EC because it is brushless and has the 3mm orbit and better vibration (very important for me with my wrist)
Or ETSC 125 Set because it is the same price as ETS 125/3 and then I get the RTSC basic
Or I just get the ETS 125/RTS 400 for the same cost as either of the 2x expensive options above
I assume I can use an interface pad on the ETS 125?
I didn't see a super soft pad like the EC model, is there one available or am I just not looking properly?
Sorry, that ended up being longer than I planned.
