What should you be looking for with saw blades used in plunge saws as opposed to normal circular saw blades? I have yet to find anything that properly explains the difference? can anyone help enlighten me?

As far as know there isn't any difference between blades for a plunge saw and a standard circular saw. Plunge saws tend to come with a higher tooth count as they are more designed for cutting sheet goods where you want a clean finish. You can still use 12 tooth blade if you have to rip material down.

I've got a CMT Orange 56 tooth blade in my Ts55, a slight step up from the original 48t. A little bit quieter too. No difference from a plunge saw to a standard circular saw.

No real difference to normal circular saw blades apart from they tend to be thin kerf.  I have a trend in mine , exactly the same spec so no issues with the splinter guard.
