Second Router

So it sounds like the 1010 is better for the LR32 system if that is something I do in the future. Won't the 1400 work for that? I've looked at the 2200 and feel it is maybe a bit too large for some hand routing, although maybe it would work well in a table given its power. I know that people say a fixed router is best for tables, but my Makita was an early plunge and it works just fine, especially after I added an above the table add-on adjustment.

The OF1400 certainly is used for LR32 work. When it came along the LR32 system was re-designed to hold the OF1400.

Probably if a DIY only occasionally needed to drill shelf-pin holes the much stiffer OF1400 springs would not be a huge problem. However, I am in the cabinet making business, so daily a lot of pin holes get drilled. Try using both routers for the purpose and you will see how much harder it is with the larger router.

Yes, the OF2200 is a large router, but that is a major advantage. It is very smooth. All that bulk reduces vibration.

The second 1400 is on order
Advantage
1. Developing one system
2. Both takes 1/4 and 1/2" bits
3. Jigs fits both routers In The same way
4. Depth measure on 1400 is better than on 1010
5. If one is busy another can take the same jigs or templates
6. Making heavy stuff as entrance doors requires special bits pair each 1/2" shank
7. Metal adapter for guide bushings is better choice than plastic
8. Using 1/2" shank guaranty less vibration and slips
9. Having two 1400 plus Colt is 3 routers, better than one 1400 one 1010 one Colt
10. There is nothing 1400 cannot do but 1010 can (I have no LR32)

The only think I found better on 1010 is it's weight but it does not make difference to me. The second think is better fit to angle arm due to smaller weight, but I already solved that problem with 1400.

The power needed is proportional to
Speed x section area of cut.
This means two passes is one pass on twice stronger motor. This is no problem to me and so 2200 is out too.

1400 is just a perfect match to my need. I learned from all of you so much.
Thanks a lot to everyone

I am pondering a second router as well and as most of my router bits have a 1/2" shank that takes the OF1010 out of the equation for me.

The 2200 is great so smooth, if I had a choice between 1400 and 2200 the 2200 would win, I have both.
Get the accessory kit if you get 1 I bought it thinking I would hardly ever use it! Wrong

The 1400 works very well with the LR32.
Some say the 1010 is better, I don't know because I have never tried it but that is hardly a negative for the 1400.
