Setting My New Shop Up (Formerly Shop Build Progress)

[member=2912]Don T[/member]

ripped that strip yesterday gonna finish installing it today.

Got 1 more sheet of T 111 left. Ill cut that up in about a hour or so and fit it.

I think Im about 2 or 3 short of finishing this ..

picked up 2 more sheets of T111 to finish the shop area (not office area). Plan on starting some projects paper towel holders, edge band dispensers , peg board organizers etc

Ill post as I get them done.

Plus want to finish that side board I started back in Oct that was interupted by my ankle surgery ad setting the shop up.

So lots coming....

Just a heads up to everyone following this thread

Theres nothing really going on.

I did do some things like build a thing to hold my TS55 got the idea from another poster who showing his shop off here.

Looking to get some peg board to hang some things from.

Also using up some of the plywood scraps I got lying around and dont want to throw away, so Im going to make some cabinet doors out of them.

Use some 1/4 scraps for the center panel.

Dont know how they will come out as its the chinese imported ply but after sanding a painting (eventually) they may look ok.

Photos to follow I got some running around to do, seems like thats all Ive been doing the last fews days. [unsure]

Really great job there!!  And I couldn't agree more Jobsworth!  I did the elec work exc the 220V sub panel. I too am hanging T1-11 in my whopping 11x15 shed.  Have two sheets up so far and it looks fantastic.  I used 4" OC T1-11.  It's exactly like 'going to work' lol

I need to get one corner finished soon as my new Sawstop PCS/3hsp arrived early and is sitting under a tarp outside.  Hopefully I'll get this in this weekend.

@ Christophl
the beauty of the T111 is ya can paint it or leaving it natural. I left mines natural and ya can screw stuff to it. The 3/8 I use wont carry a lot of weight but I can screw some thing to it

To me the T111 was a bargain, Im not real good a hanging dry wall, I can but not very good at it and working alone the T111 was a one person job though 2 made it faster. PLus not counting having to buy dry wall tools that I wouldnt really use after I finished the shop

Sorry ya'll for not posting much lately. Ive sort of taken a break doing a few other things then building stuff for the shop.

I still havent done much.

But what I did do was make some cabinet doors. There are only 3 cabinets right not that I need to build doors for.  So because of the width I made 2 doors per a cabinet.

I made them simple using up some of the scrap I have left over from the build. Plywood rales and styles and a 6mm/ 1/4 center panel.

Didnt get to fancy just pocket hole together.

The for the center panel I routed a rabbit aound the back side of the door to set the panel in used sylicone to hold the panel in.

A simple trick I picked up from Gary Katz (one of his videos) was rather than chiseling/ squareing up the corners of the door to fit the panel, cit the cornors off the panel at a diagonal (no particular angle) thats a quick and dirty way to set the panel in the door.

Im gonna be setting up the office part soon enough. Its getting hot out here in Az. 97 this week with a spike up to 99 today.

Still not to bad for Az.
So much like last year Ill still be chugging along just a little slower. got the shop insulated and paneled right on time

Heres a photo of the back side of the door.  Nothing special or fancy just showing you how I fit te panel.

Oh one thing I forgot to mention is the STM with the MDF top I made for it. I tell ya truthfully Iwasnt sure how well or if it would be all that much of game changer putting that MDF top on it.

Well I can tell ya this after using it for a while now Ive been useing it as a aseemble table, parts table, cross cutting and ripping directly on it (as the entire piece cost me only $36 buck at the time) I have no worries about cutting into it like I did cutting into my MFTs.

So Im pretty happy about it right now. Plus I can just pop the top up leaning them against the wall fold the STM up store it under a MFT outta the way..

Well I got 2 more doors to make, the longest piece of 3/4 scrap is 29" long the cabinet is 30". So Ill just screw a 1 1/2" piece across the top front to be able to use the remaing scrap ply.

With the cost of lumber now really dont want to waste anymore then I have to

Been busy with a couple of projects however here are a couple of photos of updates to te shop

Bc I used T111 I can screw things right to the walls so I hung up things on the walls.

On the end of the cabinet run I made a spot to store my TS55. I saw someone make something simular for their shop and like the idea. Its right where I keep my SYM and make my cuts so its a good spot of it

Very nice!!  Good job.  I need to do some work to my shop for shelving/storage but just haven’t had the time.  I’m booking jobs 12 weeks out as it is so can’t find a couple days to work on the shop or my enclosed trailer.  That’s an entire different beast altogether.

Thanks

Yah it does take a lot of time and it does turn into a grind setting up a shop.

Im still doing a few things to it as the majority of it is done.

That trailer build is going to be a great thread. Look fwd to following it.

If ya dont mind, I might be picking your bring on how about I go about getting a track for this barn door idea i got.

It will be a bit before I build it.

lots to do in this house its new and only been in it about a year, so lots to do

Of course.  I’m here to help in anyway I can.  Feel free to reach out.  I’ll message you my contact info.  That’s what it’s all about…picking each other’s brains and experiences to help us out.  Have a new hanger system I’m trying out soon that is totally hidden.  Pretty cool.

Hi Ron:
You have only been in your new house one year.  This month was the second year anniversary since we moved into our new house! I finished the family room and den cabinets but still have the tv room cabinetry to start then the downstairs will be done.
I started building cabinets/shelves for the areas on both sides of the living room fireplace and will start installing them next week.  One side at a time.
I sometimes think I will never get done.

Heygood to hear from ya bud,

post some photos no photos then it didnt happen  [big grin]

Well now its getting to our hottest time of year. I started on a small project. Almost done with that. So next will be a bed. Man I got alot of stuff to do. its almost overwhelming .

But it sounds like yer getting settled into your new home.

So do you use that large triangle to check for square corners...so that you don't need the 24" square?  I've been avoiding buying the latter due to cost.

I bought them to square up my MFT. But now I use the GRS so ya I use them for checking square and squaring things up.

Give Don Ware or Allan Kensly a call at Anderson Plywood.
They were selling large squares cut on a CNC fairly reasonable.

They quit selling them,  but the last time I was there I axed them if they had any left and they did. Something like $29.
Its very accurate as accurate as the WP square

That would've been perfect, I called and they are only selling them locally due to damage UPS kept doing to the squares.  Ugh...$29 is hard to beat lol

If they are properly packaged how do they get damaged?

Maybe you can make yer own out of MDF or Phenolic.

Do a search for "woodworking wizard" here. Ian (RIP) was a genius at coming up with making stuff like squares. If i remember correctly he did make some pretty cool squares.... It was sometime ago but the post should still be accessible

Mine wasn’t. Basically it was wrapped in cardboard, no buffer for anything to get dinged or smashed. Really disappointing since they could get decent boxes and other materials from ULine or similar.

That's my point. Sounds to me like the root of the problem is the one who packaged the item, not UPS and their handling practices which I admit are questionable at times.
