Shop Sizes?

Peter

As others have mentioned, mobility in the shop is key. When we built our new production shop (ongoing for the past 3 yrs), we put everything we possibly could on casters and it has made a huge difference. Even Dixie, our full assembly table/stock transporter. Also, extensive built in cubbies with adjustable shelving, and a drafting table/laptop station with wifi. I can send you pics if you are looking at tricking your new space out.

Curious as to what you mean "not common"?
Interesting...can you explain.
Tim

Well, that is what I am told by most people that see it.

My current shop building is 2632 square feet. It has 9 1/2' tall ceilings.  It includes shop, lumber storage, finish area & office.
It has a 2600 sf, 5 1/2 foot tall crawl space that is used for storage.

The crawl space worked well for storage until a couple of years ago when it got more difficult for me to stoop over enough to keep from hitting my head.
Getting tired of hitting my head on the joists & beams, I am having a 42' X 60' x 14' tall pole building built.
After the floor is poured, I will be adding a 20' X 42' loft on one end. Having this building will also free up space in the shop that is now used for lumber storage.

Chris

I second the loft concept. We put a 300sf loft in the cathedral ceiling of our new shop and it has been dynamite.

id love to see a thread on a tricked out shop.

chris id love to have a  large storage area dedicated to my shop. i would like the 5 '6" space as it is practically useles for normal day to day storage so would be left clear of the day to day clutter that builds up.

i think i would have roll around (and out if that is posible) storage carts  in that area for storing diferent types of stuff. lumber, tools, fixings etc
then i would  have a roll around  chair so that i could move around in the space and retrieve  what ever i wanted

This is Dixie, our ultimate material receiver/transporter, and she doubles as a good assembly table/ripping station. Couldn't function without Dixie.

Thanks for the explanation.

Long and funny story about he she got her name. Sometime when we really have some time on our hands...

Yes, when loaded like that, Dixie is like pushing a Volksvagen around. That picture was her maiden voyage. We just needed to know...

thats a nice cart. must be a pain to move with all that on top. good to know that you can put your car on top of it thow and still hold up

Hi Peter

6.3m x 10.4 m divided between two rooms , one machine, one assembly and finishing. As said the ability to move stuff is really important.
