Hello,
I have a home with knockdown textured walls and ceilings. I would love to remove them. I'm attempting a level 5 type finish. I have never done this before so I tested it on one wall.
I'm willing to invest with a Planex to help with dust control, and speed of work. I currently own an extractor.
1. Dilute then mix all purpose compound with water.
2. Using a 1/2 roller nap, roll compound into wall; filling the voids between texture.
3. Using a 22" knockdown squeegee, spread the mud flat.
4. Repeat 3-5 times.
On the 3rd coat it looks great! The only problem is the high spots from the knockdown. It would require 3-4 more coats, to cover those high points. 90% of the wall is flat at 3 coats.
WHAT I WOULD DO DIFFERENTLY - Sand and remove high points from texture using planex, or pole sander.
In my case I'm currently living in this home, and dust management is a major concern. I think a planex sounds like something I could use for mere dust management alone!
What are your opinions? Has anyone ever done this? What grit would you recommend for abrasive.
