STM 1800 Quality (Changed Subject to Shipping Damage Issues?)

Naw, got it from Toolnut/FestoolProducts.com. Not a big deal really, it still works ok, just annoying.

Shoot Shane a email or DM.

Toolnut has a good rep for great customer service see what they can do for you

[member=12048]jaguar36[/member] - Did Matt and Shane help you out?  What did they tell you?  Where are you located?  They sent me two replacement pins, and I only needed one...  I'd be willing to send to a fellow FOGger if need be.

I tried.  I contacted Shane and Matt at ToolNut, because I would have ideally wanted to send the pin to the person waiting the longest (trying to be fair).  Matt sent me an email this morning (ToolNut was closed yesterday for Election Day) and said that FestoolUSA got the pins in and were giving ToolNut enough to make all of their customers happy.  They also told me to keep mine.

So...  I still have it.

Mine arrived with three of the pins bent and the two plastic endcaps on the extension arms broken. Not the end of the world, it's still perfectly useable, but they definitely need to up the amount of packing foam they use. It'll be nicer when I can lock/unlock every extension arm, but the remaining, good pins were easy enough to move to the arms I use most often.

On the plus side, I'm using this STM 1800 almost every day, I love it. It already has some drips of dried tung oil on the frame and a track saw slice through two of the top wooden supports, but I guess that goes with the territory!

I've reached out to Festool Superstore (PMC Tool) to see if they can help or whether I should be reaching out to Festool directly.

I got mine from Toolnut. Package showed no damage. Two bent pins and two crushed end caps. I contacted Festool and they sent me replacement end caps. The pins are on back order.

Ordered my second STM1800 last week and received it Thursday.  Both tables arrived without any issues.  Love these tables!

Finally received my replacements today.  I've been using the table but can finally utilize the tip up function.

Yeah, I got 4 of those clips for the two STM’s and made two 6’x2’ mft style table tops for it.

Wow thts awesome, I didnt think about making a table that big for it. Good Idea. I went with 2 24' x 30" for both sides of the STM. Im gonna think hard about that 6' one

I ordered mine from Toolnut and received it with a few scuffs but no damage. I agree that Festool needs to redesign the packaging. IMHO, they should also ship it fully assembled. Something this pricy should be ready to use right out of the box.

Was interesting reading this thread to find out how many damaged locking pins there have been.  I just received my STM 1800 last month when ToolNut made it available to order them again this year.

Just finished putting it together and had a bent locking pin as well, (what got me here looking.)  The box it was packed in showed some wear on the outside, but no evidence on the inside that the damage occurred during shipping.  No dents in the cardboard anywhere.

In addition to the bent pin, the plastic cap is pretty trashed and on the metal bar that it locks, (side panel according to the EKAT), the end hole is seriously elongated, approximately half again the size of an undamaged one.  Whatever caused the damage to the pin and the side panel was substantial if it was able to stretch that hole out like that.  Am crossing my fingers that they will have the parts in stock to repair it swiftly.  Guess I'll be giving ToolNut a call tomorrow to initiate the process.

Thanks to all for the enlightenment.

I’d call fesstool. If they don’t have the part in stock they can get it from Germany

So , why did Festool do a limited run of the STM's?  They seem like a very popular seller and well liked from the users.  Im confused on why Festool would only offer for a limited time.  This is not usually like them.

Just a guess, but they're quite bulky to ship compared to a pallet of systainers, and they're on the upper end of pricing as far as accessories go.  Compared to a Bora portamate, they're definitely an intentional purchase.

I'm guessing there was enough demand from dealers that they shipped another container this way to help appease the hungry crowds, but it's not the kind of thing that's intended to be a regular flow.

That said, you'd think someone could have found room in the container for a few sets of router bits, the new Centrotec sets, or other small NAINA consumable-type items, but I don't want to take this thread completely off-track with that  [dead horse]...

So I’ve been using my STM-1800 for almost a year.  Bought it for my desk table top project.  Have used it a couple of times this year, but today I went to extend the tip up arms before buying some ply this weekend and lo and behold…..bent pin!

I’ll send in a message request too FUSA for a replacement, but remarkable how many of us have had this same issue.  I struggle to see how the damage occurred, but hey ho.  Otherwise love this thing and as an addition to my MFT and soon incoming CMS-GE it will make my workflow much more consistent for a hobbyist.

Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Woodworking Season everyone!

What's up everyone, thread might not be alive. I did however want to say, issues are still happening in 2023! Received a STM yesterday, mine had a damaged rubber end cap along with same famous pin, just not bent but straight sheered in half! Now under the card box in the center when you first unbox it, it has a second pin wedged in and that was bent as well as others pictures look! No box damaged from shipping, so could it still be a factory direct issue?

Anyone know of the part number nowadays, basically the whole assembly nut spring plastic pull tab and pin itself.

I know the vender I got mine from will take care of the issue as they have always been so polite to me. But rather I would actually like to buy a hand full of these to keep on hand if these issue is this common. Thanks!
