Strength of boom arm

I have a CT-22 boom arm that is mounted to a table, not the CT-22.  I currently have a 36mm hose and Plug-It cord routed through the connectors.  I am considering adding a 27mm hose and plug it cord for the tools that require it (yes, I know there is 27-36mm adapter, but it's a pain to use due to vacuum/power cord length discrepancies).

Is the boom arm strong enough to support 2 sets of hoses at once?

Kodi, as far as I know, there's not a published weight limit. Nor do I have any experience with using it with multiple hoses. So, I don't have definitive answer.

However, that being said, it's steel tubing and they replaced the original plastic coupler/hinge/thingy with an aluminum one, so I would think it's up to the task. But, that's just my opinion. Maybe one of the forum members uses theirs for pull ups and knows for sure.  [wink]  [huh]

The only issue I've had with my Boom Arm was with the nylon axel that connects the upper and lower tubes.  Mine bent and became unusable the first week or so with only the D27 hanging from the arm.  Festool sent an aluminum replacement axel that I have used with both a D27 and D36 hanging from the arm for almost six (6) years now without any further problem.

I use mine with both,  I just ordered extra clip things to hold the second hose.

Hope this helps

Well Shane, I have very little floorspace between my various toys; so i have three of them set up along the wall so i can swing trapeze style from area to area.  ::) When i misbehave, THE BOSS LADY hangs me from whichever is closet at the time.  [scared] But I'm just a little guy [poke] Others mght just run into problems if they tried the same. [oops] [popcorn]

I do think that Daniel's setup will work.  I tried the same thing a couple of years ago, but it just added to the overhead clutter for me. I felt like i was fighting my way thru jungle vines.  I now keep the 36mm hose mounted to the boom and keep a couple of short lengths (12-18") of 27mm that i insert between the end of 36mm and the toy i am using.  With this setup, i still get good vacuum at the tool end.  Sometimes, when sanding with vac turned low, I will get some buildup of dust in the overhead run. I attribute that to a lowering of velocity from the 27mm section to the full length of 36mm hose.  Also that for sanding, I cut the vac, sometimes to minimum.  The hose never clogs completely unless I pick up a piece of solid debris when cleaning the work area. It only takes a few seconds with the CT 33 running at full vac and my hand over the end of the hose to clear the buildup.  I have a couple of extra lengths of 27mm hose that i sometimes use laid out along the floor if i am doing a lot of sanding with the vac set on low.

When using my SCMS (Hitachi 8-1/2), i have yet to work out a system where i can capture more that a small % of the dust.  It is useless to try with the 27mm hose.  with the 36 mm hose going up over the boom, it is a little better, but still far from purfict.  I have not tried laying the 36mm hose along the floor, but that might work better.  But then i wood need to go back to swinging on the boom to get over the hose and electric cables. 8)

Hey Daniel why do you have two hoses on your boom arm? is one 36mm and one 27mm?
thanks

I echo what Tinker said. I used to have both hoses hanging from my boom arm, but it was a hassle and made things very unwieldy. Now I just have the 36mm connected, but when I get to the sanding part of a project, I switch to the 27mm hose.

Yep, I have both sizes up there.

To deal with the extra hose, I just tuck the unused one into the closer side of the v-shaped tool holder.  It never gets in my way.

Dealing with the second hose was a concern.  I have the tool holder also, so perhaps I could use that.

Then again, I could butcher a Plug It cord to make a short pigtail.  Oh wait.  No, I can't.

Maybe Festool should offer a short pigtail cord, and then we could all standardize on the length of our 36 mm to 27 mm converter and sand and domino with ease?
