Stripping Carvex female plug socket

Hi everyone,

I've just recently registered on to the FOG but have been a bit of a lurker for a while now. Anyway I was on a laminate flooring job yesterday and plugged my Carvex PS420 in but no life. On closer inspection it appears that one of the small pins inside the female socket that engages with the Plug-it lead has sheared off.

I spoke with Festool UK today as my warranty has typically just ran out last month but there was no christmas spirit to honour a repair unfortunately so it looks like I'll need to be attempting to fix it myself. I've spoken with someone who gave me a part number (499651) and said it was fairly easy to swap over.

So my question is where is the best place to order such parts? Festoon UK? or is there an online spares place? And secondly has anyone actually carried out this repair before who could offer any advice and/or tips or wisdom please?

I've spoken with someone who gave me a part number (499651) and said it was fairly easy to swap over.

Wonder who that could have been?  [wink]

I get all my spare parts (and pretty much all of my Festool gear actually) from the team Nuts and Bolts (AKA Powertool Supplies).

I have not done this repair on a Carvex, but I did on a lot of other Festools, and it is an easy procedure indeed. Just open the plastic shell by loosening some screws, and you'll see this part inside is also fastened by just a few screws. All you need to do is screw. With a screwdriver, not your significant other.  [tongue]

I know, just typical. Turn up to a job where it's one of the main tools I'd use. Had to go begging to borrow another for the day. Just another hurdle lol

And ^having the part on-hand, and the know-how^ can turn a work-stopper into a just becoming lesser annoyance.

Had this happen on a TS55 and also an LS130, tools also not in warranty. Part ordered direct from Festool (approx £6.00). Change is very straight forward, takes no longer than five minutes. On the TS55 it meant that the saw was out of action waiting for the part. I now hold a spare for each of the tools I own, so when the LS 130 went down it was only out of commission for 10 minutes. Connection inside is either spade or screw depending on the tool.
