Sys 4 tool inserts

Who has the sys 4 with the festool tool organizer insert?

I'm mostly a Millwork/trim guy so I'm wondering If this will fit my needs or if I should make my own.

There are several that have been made and posted on the forum.  I had one of the Festool units but found it did not work for the tools I wanted to put in it and ended up selling it.

I think you might be better off to design and build your own, based off of some that have been done here.

i wouldnt bother with the festool one.
i would make one . its cheaper and it willl fit your tool colection and needs better

Can you guys that have made your own inserts post some pictures? I just ordered my sys 4 and plan on making up an insert this weekend hopefully.

On another note, what does everyone put in their sys 3? Seems to be an in between size that's either too big or too small for any of my tools

I have a sys3 with a small belt sander, power planer, trim router and multi tool in it with a sys1 under it with the all of the accessories for the tools. I just have all of the tools set in the sys with all of the cords coiled on the top.

I did purchase the Festool systainer 4 tool insert and used it for a few years, but I sold it after I made my own inserts.

I have the Festool insert, and I like it fine.  I specifically requested it be sold in a Sys 5 (paying the difference) which was accomodated by the very awesome dealers here.

I like having the extra top space, so I can throw in spare gloves, a 12" level, random small containers of whatever I need, without disrupting the organized contents in the carrier.
Further, I have the Sys5 on a roll-board and it forms the foundation of a mobile stack, and I can just roll it around by itself where I need it.  Also works great as a stool when I'm wiring bunches of outlets or something.

Guess it just depends what you have to put in them. I have found the Sys-III to be the most useful size.  I have  1/2" drill, Sawzall, Blum EcoDrill,  "brief" case, Kapex acc., and some other things all in Sys- IIIs.

I havn't  made a tool holder insert so can't help with that.

Here is my toolbox insert i am still using it daily and am happy with it.
A sys 3 is not tall enough to put screwdrivers or chisels standing up, and that is the most useful way of storing stuff in a systainer, so that you can reach anything with having to lift the insert out.

THanks for sharing the plan Tim - I downloaded it from the 3D warehouse into Sketchup.

In looking at your site, it appears you printed out the template to scale so you could adhere it to plywood and cut from the pattern.

How did you accurately size the printout?  Are you using Sketchup Pro that gives you more printing options?

I don't do it often but i think you need to "hide" everything but the image you want to print, then right click zoom extend, and then go and print the image set at full size.
I have the free version, but it's useful to check with a ruler after you print if the dimensions are correct. the annoying thing is that it doesn't optimize the printing and takes like 10 sheets, you will need to cut and glue the puzzle back.

If that doesn't work you can google for "sketchup printing full size"

Thanks for the link TimTool, I never thought of drawing it up on the computer first. My systainer will be here Friday, I'm going to try and layout all the handtools and accessories I use daily and figure out the best layout.

Anyone want to sell their festool insert? I don't know when I'm going to have time to put one together in the near future and I have an empty sys 4 sitting in my office.
