Systainer handle removal

Some unpleasant liquid  landed on top of one of my systainers. I need to remove the handle to finish cleaning. What is the best way to remove the handle?
 
pop the handle into the vertical put  a hex bit next to the hinge of the handle and close the handle with a bit of pressure
