Systainer VS Sortimo ( Bosch using both)

on the topic of Bosch, I've found the quality of their products really dropping over the past few years. I guess they're good if you're just doing dirty work. I've got a wee bosch 12v driver that i Think is well worth the money but the rest of their stuff is about average IMO. Well I'll give them some credit for their Miter saws and their portable table saws over their competitors but the rest of their gear is going south

I agree with your comments.  There was a time where buying "Blue" meant buying an industrial class product.  The company now seems to be building different levels of quality into their tools.  Many of the Blue range quite frankly aren't up to the task, especially in their cordless range, and really belong in the Green, D.I.Y. range.  This is poor product differentiation that will hurt the company in the longer term.
Festool, by contrast, only manufacture industrial class products, so by and large you know what you're getting.

I've played around with the Sortimo boxes in the store. They seem to be pretty ok to me, just as sturdy and easy in use as Festool's systainers. The only thing that I didn't like about the Sortimo were the latches. The entire Sortimo case is made out of quality plastic and then suddenly the latches that hold the lid are of very thin, very flimsy material. I got the impression that they would snap if you simply looked at them the wrong way. I understand they don't need to hold weight like the latches on a systainer, but nevertheless, I would prefer latches of a better quality.

As for the comparison one member made above between the portability of Sortimo and Festool boxes, I can't say I understand his line of reasoning very much. I rely solely on foot and bicycle to move my tools around in systainers, and they've proven to be an excellent medium to do so. Unlike you lazy s.o.b's who just stuff their trucks and vans [poke] with them I got to test their field performance to the max and they passed with high grades. The only way Festool could improve on them is to make them self propellant. Btw, I got my first T-Loc the other week, and I can say I'm not impressed. It's a step down.

I really like the Incredible diversity of boxes  and sizes offered as OEM here in the States!!!! [huh]
It gives you the chance to devise "custom" storage solutions, and get that Xtra little workout in while making multiple trips to the truck.

Alex-

What makes the T-Loc a step down in your firsthand observations ?

I second that question.
Anyway, I took a look at them at a local dealer, and they seem a bit notsquare to me. Not leaving too much room inside for tools and their companions which is needed too.
The lack to stack systainers on top is a real bumer for me, as I do not intend to swap the whole stack by now. There fore I specifically asked for a systainer version of both the guilderail set (the angle thing etc) and the plastic vacuum cleaner set. Fortunately my local small dealer worked overtime to get me those "old" systainer versions. And as it happens, my local dealer likes the systainers better too  [smile] Maybe I will have to accept them when I hope to buy a RO90 later (will be doing a bunch window frames next spring). Meanwhile the Fein multimaster is on big sale over here.
So, please tell us what you think on those new boxes.

Cheers,
Jacques.

Great stuff but the prices are killing me.  Is there something modular that's half way in between Rubbermaid and Tanos?
