Well I did it again, added to the systainer stack! This time it was a T15 set. I am unable no matter how I twist and push to seat the Jacobs chuck fully on the drill body. All the other chucks work fine. I am able to mount the Jacobs onto the RT angle chuck but not the drill body. I read and followed the directions, I even searched up some video reviews incase I was missing something... to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions?  [sad]

i had my t15 for 2 1/2 years and never had  a problem getting the chuck off it. My t18 on the pther hand is being a bit of a nightmare from time to time. i had to pry the chuck off the other day because even with 2 of use we couldnt get it off then next time it just glides on, rather stange

Dean, could the air temperature and the temperature of the drill before and after use have anything to do with the metal expanding and contracting?

I would suggest that you call Festool in the morning.  This is one of those times where the time zones will be in your favor!

Dean my T15 does it alot the keyless chuck won't come of no mater how hard you pull. The method to remove it is either pull the trigger having the drill in the opposite direction you was using it last and let go do like two short bursts or more then most of the time you can remove the chuck if not which does happen alot also is bang the chuck onto a hard surface twice this normally always releases the chuck!   Simples!

I've heard of this before.    The solutions to remove the chuck I'm reading suggest to me the hex shaft in the chuck is camming itself stuck in the drill spindle.  Thus the reversing or banging of the chuck loosens it up.    So far it hasn't happened to me, but experience with early model impacts and hex drivers gave me the same problem.  I also made the mistake of using one of my aluminum shaft extensions with an impact.  The aluminum distorted so bad that the bit cammed in near permanent.  As far as Festool, my guess is that there is a batch of tools out there that have some off tolerance parts.  Either the spindle was broached too large or the chuck hex was cut too small.   In either case a slight temp change (hot motor+hot gearcase= hot spindle) or high loading (large bits, large screws in oak) would cause the chucks to jam up.

oops....just reread my post and the op  rich1, you can't even put the chuck onto the spindle...but it will work on the RA?    Measure the diameter of the spindle on the RA and measure the one on the drill with a mic or calipers.  See if there is significant difference.  If you have easy access to other Festool drills, then measure them too.  Test your chuck on other drills and vice versa. Try and find out if your drill is different from all the others.  Seems like a hassle compared to just sending it back, but I would do this as curiosity would win me over.    If your spindle is too large you can just send it back....or....take a bit of fine emery cloth and run the spindle in it to decrease its diameter.    If it's the chuck just get another chuck.

if it did it sould be considered during the design process

That would be funny!  You get to the dealer and while you was on your way the chuck wiggles its self loose you give him the drill and it pops right off!  You would be GUTTED! haahaa lol

As I said I am not able to get the chuck on???? The suggestion that I measure the spindle at the end of the drill body is a good one and I'll do that. None of the dealers here in San Diego seem to have the T drills so I can't measure others. Festool is sending me a new chuck I'll try that too. Hate to have to send it back.
