hey all, i'm new to fog and festool and am getting ready to pull the trigger on the dominos package. With 15% tax over here in canada, saving that tax is quite a bit of saving. Even if the lower canadian currency, i think i still might come out ahead. I've tried a few online sites from the states, like acetools, they're using ups, and there's still a big chance of getting dinged. is there anywhere that will ship usps? 'cause i've had better luck with tax using usps and declare it as gift.

I am 99.9% sure that a US dealer will not be able to ship to you in Canada

They are able, just not allowed to.

Most people undervalue experience and expertise, and go for saving a few $ rather than supporting their local neighbors and businesses.

Well, I purchased my Festool 564616 C 18 Cordless Drill SET and Festool 201312 Centrotec Installers Set together from our local Woodcraft store (and paid the 9.25% Tennessee state tax).  I did this so I would have a local dealer contact, and because of the great service I received from the owner, who took the time to educate me on the advantages of Festool.

Having said that, my subsequent purchase of the Festool 583492 CT 26 and Festool 497700 Tradesman Cleaning Set were done online.  The only downside with online purchases, at least from my perspective, is the need to save the original shipping box for larger items (CT26), should I ever need to return for repair or exchange.  While I saved the expense of sales tax, I'm not sure I will continue online for smaller items or consumables.  I like an excuse to visit Woodcraft occasionally.

I've bought all of my Festool equipment from the same local non-chain dealer.  I deal with the same guy every time and he has educated me on the virtues and shortcomings of various tools and accessories.  On several instances, the dealer has even talked me out of products I thought I wanted based on my online research.  I appreciate that.

When I went to purchase the Domino, the dealer was sold out, and he sent me home with his demo unit to keep for an entire week until my unit arrived.

The only other Festool dealer is my area is a Woodcraft, and this particular franchise location is operated by knuckleheads.

I'm in the U.S. and I respect Festool's international selling policies.  If you ever need service on a tool purchased out of the country, you may not be able to get it.

I would suggest you look intohttp://www.ultimatetools.ca/ in BC where my friend Chris Wong works.  I'm sure they will give you the advice & support you need.  Lee Valley is a Festool dealer nationwide and they are also great people to deal with.  I think both will let you go in and demo any of the Festools they carry.

Looks like all are in favor of local dealership. I agree if it's small parts and it's only tens of dollars, i wouldn't bother. But this is a 2k purchase and it's 300$ saving. With the quality and wealth of online resources, i don't think i have to worry about servicing or returns. Besides, i'm not those that go to lv on a regular basis. I have purchased from lv for more than 10 years. Folks are not particularly helpful. I have asked a couple of times for them to demo a number of festool tools but cold shoulders are all i got. Maybe they don't think i'm a serious buyer, or not into woodworking, maybe i don't deserve a festool. But the bottom line is 300$ is not a small amount. Might be small to many of us here who shelled out >5k a month for a tool or two.

I have read posts here that mentioned that there are sellers out there that can do that. The thing is, festool will still get their money. The loser here is the government, and the only local festool dealership in town. Both of them i'm not particularly fond with.
