As the contest comes to a close the dominator has been created to choose the winning entry.
Getting it to work was a challenge in itself and seeing it work is cool in it own way, kind of a rue goldberg machine.

For the final drawing the top ten entrys by vote go into the drawing, though a glitch occurred. As of jan 31 there were 8 entrys clearly in the running but there were several nominations that were tied for the final two spots.
To promote fairness to all tied entrys and keep the contest interesting, each entry will get 1 domino (5x30)for each vote it garnered. These will be put into the dominator with there name on it and the winner will be pulled from these today.

I will post a picture of the dominator and a video of it pulling the winner as soon as I get it done. I will have to get assistance for posting the video so hang tight.

Bill

Bill, that sounds like a very fair way of picking a winner.

I look forward to seeing pictures of the dominator and to hearing about the winner that it picked.

Bill,
Wow -- the Dominator!  Can we save that and use it for other contests?

Definitely, post a video of the winner being chosen.

Thank you for sponsoring January's contest, and for making it a lot of fun.

Looking forward to seeing who wins.

Stay in touch,
Matthew

Thanks to all who entered the January contest.  It was great to see all the interesting projects,
keep it up.
I enlisted the help of my son to work out the bugs of the dominator he is always tinkering and it worked great.
Kind of a air powered domino scrambler that was fun to design and build. Could go on loan if someone wants to use it for another event.

And now the winner of the January contest is................watch the video and find out.

And thanks to Matthew for helping to get the video here to watch.

That is cool. I'm excited just seeing my name 'up in dominos'.

Good Morning,
Bill has shot the video of the Dominator (it's in MOV format).  But there's a small issue: it's rotated 90 degrees!

Does anyone here have the software needed to rotate a MOV file?  Otherwise, we'll all have to turn our heads to the side to watch the video.

Thanks,
Matthew

I've got Photoshop CS4, and was looking if I could do it with that. But I'm really unsure if it would do it, or if I could do it.

Yes, I can rotate MOV files and re-save them in MOV format (or most other formats), and have just tested it out.

I've sent you an e-mail.

Hi forrest,
Thanks for looking at this, I have spent the last day running around to figure out how to rotate the clip and taking the camera and laptop to people for this technical problem. Bottom line I have learned as of 5pm pst is  ditch the old camera, buy up to apples ransom to get a edit program just to turn this one video, or re run the dominator about 1 million times till the original winner comes up again.

I  would be thrilled if your way works!!!! If you and Matthew can get it online that would be superb.
Let me know if I can help.

Thanks
Bill

Hello Everyone,
With the help of Forrest, I have obtained a good copy of the "Dominator" video, and I uploaded it to YouTube.

Now for the fun part.  Watch the video to see who won January's contest...

Congratulations to _________________.

Thanks again Bill for sponsoring January's contest, and thank you to everyone who participated.

Very cool Bill. Thanks for sponsoring the contest. When you said it would take several tries to get the same results, I kind of figured the winning domino probably came from one of the folks with one or two.

Congrats Prater.

Congratulatons, Prater.  As I said before, a great job on a very creative and most unusual project.
