hi jmb.

you should check out protool.com.au

you will find all the accessories available for the protool sword saw.

have you used the saw much?
does it leave a splinter free cut?

i suspect it will be for rough cutting only.

i thought about buying the swordsaw for cutting and rippping coconut posts, but these are dressed all round and i reckon the protool will leave a lot of chipped edges.

Well I only got to play with it 2 day! I only done ONE cut with it so far lol and that was set at a 60 degree angle cutting softwood 4''x4''  The cut was fine!!!  As I said before it does not touch the splinter guard as its not a tool for clean cuts really but its a good thing as if it did it would ruin your splinter guard for your TS55

Give me a week to have more time to play and try it out on some stuff! I have some oak flooring ill rip one down see how clean it cuts.

Just a shame they dont make and sell a longer bar as an extra

JMB

why would they do that when they can sell you a tool 4 times the price, oh wait the bar from that might .....

same pitch etcb ut i think 380mm is a tad long. i think a 300mm chain would be perfect

I c where you got the info from now!  Ill most likely have a new bar monday!

You may want to hold off a bit on that one...
The Protool bar is designed to be run in reverse direction, so it´s oil holes are on the opposite side of the blade. As it seems, a standard 91 blade won´t fit, unless you want to run your chain without lubrication.
The fact that there´s an oil hole at the right side facing you means that the blade is reversible BTW, and you should definitely do that - prserves the bar AND the chain.
1,6 kW input power transforms in less then 2 Hp output, so you probably don't even want a longer blade, although 30cm might work out.
My 2Hp tophandle chainsaw swings that exact same chain around on a 30cm blade, but i sure wouldn't want to bury anything close to it's full length in wood while cutting.
As a contrast: My Stihl MS660 felling saw definitely needs its 7+ Hp to swing around a 63cm blade in denser woods... although a 75 cm blade would do in softwoods.

What I WOULD do in your case is get an extra chain for ripping cuts, the 91R type will do fine. It will save you the hassle of regrinding a standard chain to a low angle. Mind you these chains are NOT low kickback chains, at least the 91R isn't. But I suppose that won't matter to much in this application on a guide rail...

Job

Oh I agree! And yeha I knew you could turn the bar around.   The thing is I wasnt thinking of cutting hardwood with the Sword with the longer bar only softwood and Im sure it would cope with a longer bar going through softwood as if feels it has some power when its runnin and when I cut through the 4x4 I gave it a good push to see how quick it goes through and it didn't sound like it was struggling and it was set at 60 degrees.

Thanks for tips!

Well i used jmbs sword saw today, my conclusion is that he needs to buy a cross cutting chain and the the bar imho is a little short for what we used it for but dont think the saw could handle much more. Also using it to gang cut rafters it tilts the wrong way as it sits on the offcut whcich means your cut starts to twist as you go along. Fine piece of kit but dont think i could invest that amount of money into it the way it is fordoing what i want to do with it.
