I received my long awaited shipment of TALMETER Marking Tape Measures today and they are ready for purchase.

I'm still working on the folding rules from Meterex. More accurately, they are working to get them to me... Hopefully, they will also arrive soon.

Tom

I went to place an order but see that the site wants to charge me $5 for an order less than $80. I guess I'll have to wait until I figure out what I need for a 'filler'.

My website does that because a lot of what I sell is drop shipped from warehouses across the country. Those wholesalers charge me that fee.

For Festool, Stabila, CMT, VETO, MicroJig, and now, Hultafors (TALMETER), I reverse that fee prior to processing the order. The same is true with Sales Tax in certain states because the wholesalers I work with have a tax nexus and charge me sales tax. I also reverse that tax for the above listed companies because I handle them directly out of Texas.

Unfortunately, for Texas sales, Rick Perry has his hand in our pocket(s)...

In that case, I just ordered one. But you better not charge me that $5 or I'll say horrible, nasty things about you!!!!!

[eek]

P.S. - has it shipped yet?

Let me know when you get the folding rules. Will they have the extendable blade?

He's used to those types of endorsements. [big grin]

I have two models of folding rules coming. One has the extender and can read angles. The other is billed as the "Longest Torch". It has LED lighting in the end. It's pretty cool also. They should ship soon. The sense of urgency across the Pond is a little different than here...

Nothing against Tom, but I think that I will hold out until I hear some feedback on these.  My biggest concern is the accuracy of inside measurements versus outside measurements.  In other words, how does the tape hook slide.

Peter

The hook doesn't move on these, Peter. As you obviously know, on a typical tape measure, the hook moves the thickness of the hook to compensate for inside/outside measurements.

On the Talmeters, a blade pokes out the back and compensates for the thickness of the hook in how it is configured.

Additionally, the big idea with the Talmeters is that you aren't actually measuring and recording data (lengths) but rather, you are measuring and transferring the measurement using the Talmeter's marking capability.

If you haven't watched the video, I'd recommend it.

Thanks Tom.  With what I do I would then wonder about taking a 10' inside measurement and then asking over to my workpiece and using the marking aspect on my piece to be cut.  Is the locking mechanism that strong and reliable?

Peter

It really is from what I can tell. That's something they gave great attention. It is also locked unless you release it, which is the opposite of a normal tape.

Tom

Ordered!    Can't wait to try this out.  Every time I stop at a big box store I check to see if they carry a good metric tape measure…..NO they don't.  Even had a guy at the big orange place ask me.."Why the heck do you want a metric tape?"  My response…."To measure with ! "

Eric

I just received my tape via Bigredtoolboxusa on E bay.  They are really well constructed and heavy compared to all the tapes I have owned in the last 40+ years.

Thanks Tom.

Couple of more questions.

1.  What is the minimum inside measure on all the sizes, and
2.  Most of the other tapes have a measurement on the tape body that indicates what the length of the case is for inside measurements.  Do these?

Peter

Peter, these have a tail that sticks out the back to do inside measurements instead of measuring off the body. With that tail abutting the inside edge, the inside measurements on the tape are in red, where the outside measurements are black. The inside measurements are 100mm greater than the outside. That means that at the first major hash mark on the tape, there is a black marking for 100mm and a red marking for 200mm.

That also means that the smallest inside measurement would be with the tape retracted and the tail stuck out, 100mm.

It's devilishly clever and simple at the same time.

Tom

Thanks for the heads up, I just ordered one.  The video sold me on it. I can put some of the features to use right away.  For example you can use it as a fairly stiff trammel for very large radius circles and quickly evaluate the curves when you're designing arcs for projects.  It beats messing around with the ol' pencil tied to a string.
