I live in the arizona desert, the wood I see everywhere is Mesquite. I've never really had a vacation like this. When I started driving around here I couldn't believe the incredible trees here. Exotic wood everywhere. I'm one of those guys that looks at a tree and wonders what I could make out of it. Needless to say I'm in sensory overload. When I get back, I'll post pictures. Now if I could just take it back with me. This is an incredible experience.

Yeah Yeah, rub it in. ::)

I hope you are having a blast though. The last time I was there, I wanted to rent the Ferrari for the day, but didn't have the extra grand. Maybe you could do that to really rub it in. Then you could re-enter all those great projects for this months contest too (oh wait, all ready did that)

No ferrari, just a red dodge charger. ;D I'd only be rubbing it in if I got to bring back one of those big ass burls I saw on numerous trees. Burls the size of a buick. ;D

I'm sure no one would notice when checking your luggage in.  ;D
I would have been all over it but theres a50lb limit. I had to move 7 lbs to theLOMLs lugage. :(

My brother is there right now and said he has seen some beautiful ukeleles made from koa.  Its not often I get to see koa but it is a treat each and everytime.  I hope your trip was thrilling and relaxing.

Yes to all the above. I was also fortunate to see some BEAUTIFUL ukes too. It looked like instrument grade tiger maple with a golden brown finish. It was incredible. I also saw some turnings made from a wood called "Cooks Pine" Named after the man who discovered Hawaii. (Was later killed by the natives) It has uniform knots around it and looks like it's on fire.
