I do wonder what the value of the lumber itself is.  I would guess it is about 6’ long x 3’ wide x 18” tall.  A lot of lumber.

Artistically, I think the concept and execution to be beyond perfection.  [big grin]

Not quite.  The currency is the Malaysian Ringgit, and the RM1,793 is about US$396.

Is the table really a banded solid stack of wood, or is it made to look like a banded solid stack of wood?

It's made to look that way; on the close-up, you can see that the "band" is easily 1/2" thick and the boards have been relieved to accommodate the rigid "strap" piece.

The steel and the wheels are probably the majority of the price.
 
Was it really a strapped pile of wood ... even by metal straps ... as probably the original design envisioned ... one could consider it artistic and the price reasonable*). But then commercial folks came over. Shame.

This way, it is just another fake "raw natural" gadget for the uppper middle class city folks who do not know better.

*)would need processed bio-treated wood, lots of it ...
